surround mode for satellite or cable?

what do you all use for surround modes when watching your cable or satellite? Most of my cable stations are 2.0 DD...

It seems that the Neo6 and DDPLII are kinda weak in the surround speakers..I have the Elite 72VSX and I seem to like the proprietary "7 channel" surround mode that has equal power coming out of all channels (5 channels for me)..

Maybe I should use a MCAAC slot just for tv viewing and raise the surround levels in Neo6 or DDPLII playback?

or maybe it's my crappy Bose surrounds:rolleyes:

I use DD5.1 where it's available and it defaults to DPLII where it's not. Your receiver has DPLIIX which covers all 7 channels and should use that mode when not in DD.

This is something I've been wondering about too. Do I have to have a digital audio cable to use the Dolby surround features?

If you don't get enough sound from your surrounds during DPLII or NEO 6, why dont' you just turn up the volume on your surrounds a little bit. Should help out. And as far as the digital cable question...you should use a fiber optic cable or a digital coax cable, from what i've heard on here they both sound about the same...i think you can use the 5.1 analog conection to if your dvd has the outs for it. But pesonally i'd recomend the optical cable.
