Hey guys I was planning to buy some SDA's in the near future and was wondering if this amp is sufficient to drive them. I can't seem to find the specs for this amp and I found a deal on one of them, so I am curious. Thanks

The 16 was rated at 150-170 WPC depending on the version. They were brutes and still very highly thought of.

HK's love low impedance. My AR-9's are pretty difficult to drive. Several years ago when I went to purchase them, the owner had been driving them for years with a 60wpc @ 8 ohms HK Citation 12.

That's a nice amp, a buddy of mine had one and sold it a few months ago. If the price is right, go for it. Those are cool led's on there too!

I had a citation 16 for quite a while and used it to drive a pair of SRS-SDAs. I didn't have any problems and the amp has plenty of power. I believe that it was high current (enough to weld with) and it was made in the USA. The only complaint that I had was that it was a bit heavy on the low end or not crisp enough on the high end. I now power (bi-amp) the SRS-SDAs with a pair of PSE mono-blocks on the bottom and a PSE stereo on the top. They sound cleaner but then the amps cost a lot more than the 16. The citation 16 is a great amp for the money. The FM tuner (I think it's the 18) is also a great piece. I have one and it still sounds great.
    Good Luck, Phil

Phils "not crisp" is someone elses "warm". The HK solid state amps were voiced after their Citation tube amps of the 60s. This was the HK sound. I too find it a little soft on the highs especially with Polk speakers that tend to also be softer in the highs than other speaker brands. It isn't muddy by any stretch, but the solid bass and midrange are more pronounced than the highs in all of the HKs that I have owned. I still have a Citation 24 that I use on occasion.

I didn't mean to say that the 16 was a bad sounding amp. I also have a 22 or is it 24 (200wpc) that I use in another system where the speakers are quite bright and weak in the low range (6" woofers). I also still have the matching pre and tuna in the 20 series. The tuna is one of the best I have ever used. So I didn't mean to sell the citation equipment short - it is good stuff and priced quite nicely.

It sounds good too. It looks way cool when I stack all three of the pieces in the same system. As a side note the 16 always sounded like it had more guts than the 22 even though the power rating was lower. I think the 22 had a quicker responce time and overall suonded a bit better as I sold the 16 and kept the 22. I replaced the 16 with a pair of Mac 250s modded, bridged to mono. They have a similar sound to the to the 16 but I think they have a better sound and even more guts. Some of the vintage stuff is cool and often doesn't cost a bundle.
