Both are great. Depend your ears and type of sound.

Both have extremely clean sound, clear, detailed and no distortion at higher volumes. Both have great looks and features (The yammie got more features and better remote)

I like the sound "bright". And the Yamaha have brighter sound than Denon.

All are great. IMHO, superior in quality than Pioneer, Onkyo, Sony, etc. (except Marantz and HK ... same quality).

Listen carefully the two and decide. Both are great budget and are one of the best receivers you can buy in the whole world.

    Bye :)

    Welcome to Club Polk.

Both are great receivers, but have totally different sounds. Listen to both & pick the one you like the best.

Both great choices, I went with the Denon. I thought the Denon's in general sounded warmer, good choice with my Polks... I LOVE my 3806, what a great piece of hardware...

The only problem of picking the receiver in canada is hard to find a dealer have both recevier setup together for compare.....so all I can do is reading reviews and ask around.....
I'm sure they are almost the same.......
Do you guys know if the Denon 3806 will Up-Scaling 1080p????
I know the Yamaha will up-Scaling to 1080i........
    cuz I have an 1080p supported DLP..."Toshiba 56HM195"
The denon said something about 1080p HDMI switching....is this mean Up-Scaling???
    Thx...

From what i can tell the Denon does not up-scale at all.

Both are good receivers. Denon typically has a little softer warmer sound, while Yamaha has a crisp, brighter tone. I personally prefer the sound of Denon with the RTi's. To me Yamaha on RTi's is a little too bright. Just my opinion.

BTW. Bose 350w sub????? Since when does Bose make a stand alone sub? Besides that since when did they start stating power ratings?

that sub is from my older setup.....
    I don't recall the name
it came with two double cube speakers...
came with a DIN - RCA cable from receiver to sub
I don't hock up the speaker anymore....
the sub has been around for 7-9 years...
is a gift from my older brother...
and I have done some research and find out the sub can output 350w...

My Yamaha receiver has 8 or 9 years of service with no problems. It has two sub pre-outs that came in handy hooking up my LSi 25's. As for the bright sound I would call that detail. The movies and music sound fantastic. My receiver is a 5.1 vintage but the Dolby Digital sounds great for movies or music in that format. I use the No Effect mode for two channel listening (CD's). As you can see my CD/DVD player is Denon so you won't make a bad choice with either.

Agreed. Yamaha is a very reliable brand. If you bought any product of Yamaha, you've got a great quality and great warranty.

I don't have experiences with Denon products, but i know that have great comments.

I think both are great, and you must decide for you type of sound you like

without a doubt. Denon! But I like receivers to sound good and unprocessed. Sound is like food, the more you process it, the less it starts to taste like it should. Not to mention Yamaha is the most bass ackwards receiver to operate/setup I've ever dealt with, and that list includes Sony.
Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

    Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.

Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener.

That's odd...I find my RX-V1500 to be very simple to set up and operate. Even my wife can operate it without assistance from me.

I am also quite pleased with the sound, although I am using seperate amps for the front stage. The surround modes are very adjustable for level of processing, or it can even be defeated altogether in "pure direct" mode.

I think Denon and Yamaha are both good, but I don't like the Denon user interface as much. The GUI interface on the RXV2600 is pretty nice.

Given those choices I would personally go with the Yamaha. I'm very happy with my RX-V1400 (for what it is), and I agree that the user interface on Yamahas is very easy to work with. I've been biased against Denon because of user interface and several negative comments I've read. However, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with either.

Having said that, given that you're looking at receivers, I would look at Harmon Kardon, Marantz, Yamaha, Denon, and Onkyo in that order, given that you're not branching out into the likes of B&K and NAD.
