Getting monster MIDI drum sounds? Can it be done?

Ok, I know there's some musicians in here and I'm gettin no love over at the Cakwalk forum...anyone here get good drum sounds using a MIDI drum track or some looping software (such as Acid)? How'd you do it?
BTW I'm using Cakewalk Sonar 1.3.

I have recorded a few tracks where I didn't actually play drums on the track. I think the last time I did that I was 19. So, yes...it can be done. I'd really have to do some research on that though, as I don't record much 'full band' stuff anymore.
