Placed bid on supposed set of new sealed LSi9 on ebay. Rating of seller is 99.8% Just a little nervous I guess. Anyone heard of any horror stories about speakers on ebay or should it be safe. Didn't know if there were polk copies like there are rolex and gucci or something???

The speakers may be ok...but you can kiss any warranty goodbye.

I think the only thing to be concerned about regarding speakers on Ebay is UPS

Personally, I think buying used speakers is NOT the best of ideas. From anywhere. You have no knowledge of how they were treated thoughout their lifetime.
I bought my 2b's as new but FLOORMODELS from a very reputable local store. I had a bunch of problems with them to start but was able, with time, to get them all sorted out. All under warranty of course. But a pain in the butt. They are not huge, but not easy or light to transport.

I can only imagine what could be out there available from some doughhead that doesn't have a clue.

Buy new, if you can. IF you are looking for a specific set of vintage speakers well then, you got no choice. But be prepaired to have some pains sorting out potential problems with the speakers themselves. Never mind shipping crap ect...
    Flame hat on. Go ahead.

I rarely buy new. In fact, the only home equipment I now own purchased new were my LSi15s. There are risks, no doubt, but you save sooooo much money.

The trick is to get a feel for the person selling. If they are into stereos and have nice other equipment, then they are usually ok. It's also a point in their favor if they are over 30 (hehe). Feel him out with emails and if you can call him, talk to him personally.

If the price gets close to the cost of new speakers, say, within 15-20%, you might forget the savings and go new.

    Just my 2 cents.

Just reread your post. If it's new sealed, then you should be okay, especially with a buyer who sells lots of them. You will lose the warranty, though.

I to have bought my entire system with ebay. New speakers and a used pre with an amp. You are taking a chance. Ask questions and check feedback. Most sellers are honest and will help with any questions. I did buy a sub from an internet dealer. I had a problem with the amp and they did say contact Velodyne for the repair. Velodyne did the repair with no questions. Most companies will honer the repair on there products. Another thing all my used items were in mint condition. I would not settle for less. You can tell how well they took care of the item by it's condition. By the way I did buy an Outlaw amp and was told it was in mint condition. Well there were scratches which were touched up with paint which did not match. That unit was shipped back for a refund the next day. Buyer beware. Good luck.
