I have two of these and only need one, so one is up for sale. This was Parasound's top of the line external DAC from a few years ago and originally sold for $2000. The unit has coaxial, toslink, AES/EBU, and AT&T digital inputs and balanced plus single ended outputs. Decodes HDCD's. The "Ultra" in the name comes from the collaboration of Parasound with the company UltraAnalog in its design before UltraAnalog was bought out by Wadia. Condition is an 8 out of 10 on the Audiogon scale for a couple of small nicks here and there which are all visible in the photos below.

Price $400 firm shipped in its original box to CONUS only. Payment by PayPal.

now if you use an external DAC and you have a decent cd player with fibre output, how much difference would the cd player quality matter? Reason I'm saying is because I have a 7-8 year old Sony ES cd player but am unaware of it's sound quality. I'm using it in the basement as a secondary player.

    Home Setup: Sony VPL-VW85 Projo, 92" Stewart Firehawk, Pioneer Elite SC-65, PS3, RTi12 fronts, CSi5, FXi6 rears, RTi6 surround backs, RTi4 height, MFW-15 Subwoofer.

Car Setup: OEM Radio, RF 360.2v2, Polk SR6500 quad amped off 4 Xtant 1.1 100w mono amps, Xtant 6.1 to run an eD 13av.2, all Stinger wiring and Raammat deadener.

The transport does make a difference, but the only way to know for sure is to try different options. For example, the CEC CD3300 sounds best with the AES/EBU output rather than the coaxial. A good DVD player's transport like those Denon uses works just as well with the DAC as the CEC's AES/EBU output. A Sony ES transport is usually top notch.

My curiousity is piqued and I have considered a similar item in the past but I think I need a bit more info if this item is what I really need at this time. I'm currently enjoying my past purchases from your fine collection and would gladly do business again. If you still have my number please feel free to call me anytime, if not get my number from Doro. Thanks in advance!

These are outstanding DAC's and I paid a heck of a lot more for mine. This was originally a 2000 dollar item. I certainly would not let the sale hinge on a box.

It's good, as long as I agree with the comments! :D

Seriously, Parasound has been known for years for partnering with other companies and consultants and doing a great job getting great products at reasonable prices. The DAC 2000 was compared favorably to external DAC's costing three times as much as the original MSRP. These units really are a steal.

Hi Steve. Yes, I do still have the second one, but I'm keeping that one for a while. It's not in as good condition as the first one, but only because the original owner covered up a couple of scratches with a Sharpie. I may sell it at some point.

The second one isn't for sale...yet. I may sell it towards the end of April, but need to keep it for now. I'll PM you Steve, to see if you're still interested in it then.

Received the Ultra 2000 DAC today...Emlyn did a terrific job and overpacked the item in the original carton...The DAC is in pristine condition and will make a good addition to my 2-channel rig.

I can't say enough about how smoothly this transaction went...Emlyn is a super seller and an asset to Club Polk...
