Is anybody using ZoneAlarm Internet Security that might be able to help me with a setup/configuration setting? I am having trouble getting any help from ZA and would be grateful for any assistance.

Let me throw the problem out there and see if I get lucky. When I am on a site like Club Polk it takes forever to go from page to page. From the page that list the threads to the threads themselves. I also have trouble pulling up pictures on the forum. When I turn off Zone Alarm the process speeds back up to where it should be. When I used Norton I didn't have this problem. I must have something set wrong but I have changed those that I thought would help and haven't improved things. I also uninstalled the program and reloaded it but have the same problem.
It also seems to take so much longer to go from website to website( for ex. Audiogon to Ebay).

Any ideas? thanks kevin

Zonealarm is memory hungry. Be careful uninstaling it if you decide to go back to something different. Use its uninstall feature builtin, don't do it through add/remove programs. I had to reformat 3 computers when I tried to get rid of ZA. I now use McAffee internet security suite, and love it compared to the free stuff or even Norton.

Left Zonealarm years ago. Since I started using Norton, never a problem.

I use ZoneAlarm Pro for Firewall only. It's one of the best out there - all of the peripheral protection does slow it down though so be selective on what you activate (email scanning, pop-up blocker, spyware scanner, etc).

    Kevin:

I haven't messed with ZA in a while. Is there a way to add websites to a list, perhaps Trusted Sites or something similar? When I experienced it at my old job, we had to list IP addresses and domains so the internal network would pass through to people VPNing in to the network. Check the pop-up blocker and cookie blocker as well.

ZA was a pain in the **** though!

I dumped the McAfee stuff that came with my new Dell and put Norton on it. Runs very smooth.

Whoa, Thats it. Something I did in the last 5 minutes worked. Think maybe it was disabling the popup blocking and the cookie thing. Don't I need those 2 things or am I confused on what they do. I don't want popups do I?

Any more suggestions keep em coming while I figure this out further.

    THANKS :):) kevin

No, you don't want pop-ups and I fail to see how that would affect your surfing CP. The cookies thing could be the cause of the problem, though I don't directly see how. For trusted sites, or those that you regularly visit (i.e. CP), you do want cookies enabled so those threads you haven't read in a while show as being unread, instead of blending in with all the other posts.

Well, it is absolutely flying now. Well as flying as dial-up can be:o. It is also displaying the thumbnail pictures the right way. So far no pop ups either.:)

Thanks to everybody. Man I love CP

I've been using ZA Pro firewall for years without problems. You do have to have it configed correctly though as you've learned and then it's golden. I just went to ZA Security Suite a few weeks ago and so far so good.

Anti-spyware programs also on my personal machine are Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-aware 6.0 with Ad-watch 3.0 and Spyblaster. The combination of their data bases covers most of the problems out there. (Oh yeah, MS AntiSpyware is running too as part of XPProSP2 but not sure how much stock to put in in.)

I dropped McAfee around 2000 and went with Norton for virus protection untill recently. Norton has to get back on the ball and until then I'll be using AVG.

I'm currently using AVG on both my laptop and my desktop and have absolutely no complaints.
