RTA-12 question

I am the proud original owner of a pair of RTA-12s I bought in 1986. While upgrading my system, I asked someone the silly question of whether I should replace my beloved speakers.
The recommendation was to keep them but to look at upgrading the caps and resistors, since they are 20 years old.
These speakers have been babied and I don't want to do anything "unnatural".
Is there a place where I can get these puppies reconditioned?

Just email me for my addy and send them to me at "BobMcG's Polk Rebuilding and Care Center". I'll update and upgrade them for you for the low, low price of only $19.95 (plus $699.00 s&h) and have them back to you in 4 to 6 weeks.
AND!!! If you email me within the next ten minutes I'll double that order! That's right, DOUBLE that order! You heard me, I'll solder in two components for every one that's required!!! So get on the horn and contact me right away. Don't delay! -

garcianc2003, look in your area if there is someone who you can trust to do that kind of work. Unless you aren't happy with the sound.. and they aren't having problems.. i'd say hold off on upgrading the guts of them. The only upgrade i'd suggest if a tweeter upgrade.. the replacement tweeter would be worth it.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

Yeah, thanks guys. Killing my sales and taking food right out of my mouth...:(
Oh well, welcome to the Forums g2003. Good luck with the updates.:) -
Hey Nelson, glad to see you made it over.
There's nothing unnatural about upgrading the crossover parts, so no worries. I did forget to mention the new replacement tweeters, which are well worth the money, so consider doing both. You want part # RDO194-1 and while you're ordering them ask Polk to send you a schematic. Mention you are a Club Polk member to receive the discount price on the tweeters.Political Correctness'.........defined

I can under cut BobMcG's offer. Ship them to me and I will refurbish them for free. I am however so overwhelmed with work these days so it might take a while for me to return them to you (like a very, very, very long while). But send them soon so I can start to evaluate them;)
BTW, don't call me. I'll call you.:D -
Thanks F1Nut and BobMcG, et al.
The tweeter upgrade sounds like it might be the ticket.
I have been hearing a bit of hiss in the last couple of years but, since it is equal on both sides and started after my last move, I attributed it to something outside the speakers (like the terrible electricity I have here in the boonies).
Hey BobMcG, your offer is a tempting one... would you throw in a chia pet? -

Not a problem! And as a matter of fact, I'll DOUBLE that order too! You heard me right! All you have to do is call within.........................;) -
Welcome to the Forum garcianc2003! As you can see we have a lot of fun around here. If you have the Peerless tweeters, I wouldn't do anything. If you are handy with a soldering iron the crossover rebuilt may be something you want to consider.Carl

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the tip schwarcw.
I have the SL2000 and my tweeters (especially the right channel) need work. The more time I spend on this forum, the more unbearable the noise becomes. The first thing I am doing is following F1Nut's advice and getting the replacement tweeters.
Unfortunately, I am ashamed to say that I have never laid my hands on a soldering iron. Ashamed because I have a so-called graduate engineering degree (computer science). So, take it easy on me guys. I am going to need to be patient on the crossover upgrade.
If any of you experts in the DC area can beat BobMcG's free chia pet offer with all strings attached, let me know. -
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Bobby is in a league of his own, no one here can best him, I mean two Chia pets, come on that is a no brainer.
Good deal on the RDO upgrade and nothing to ashamed of with the solder deal.
Its nice to see a new member with a sense of humor. beware my random thoughts in future posts.
And please let me add my welcome to the other's here. I have a set of 12C in the family, courtesty of Mr. Doro, a very fine speaker in my humble opinion.
Enjoy them
