Comments/Help on Paradigm Subwoofer

Denon 2805
Rti 8s mains
Paradigm Atoms surrounds
Paradigm Center
room is 16ft. x 17ft. with cathedral ceilings

I am looking for a sub $600-1000 Canadian. I wanted to go with a SVS but it sounds like to much trouble and expense after shipping and customs. I am now looking at Paradigm subs or B&W and hope someone can make some suggestions or comments that might help me in making my purchase. I use my system about 80% movies and 20% music. Would there be a big difference from 10 inch to 12 inch sub.? Thanks in advance.

i think the ps 1200 is in your price range . most of my friends and myself included have purchased this sub and we couldn't be happier...however we aren't trying to fill a room that size with bass. through these forums have found out about hsu subs .. also canadian made and apparently comparable to svs but i have no personal experience with either sub.. i don't know if you have an audio/video unlimited store in your area but they will let you demo paradigm products in your home for 14 days with a full refund and no restocking fees or anything like that...at least our local store does.

Thank you very much for your reply. I guess I will check out the PS1200 and maybe the PW2200, which maybe a little more than I want to spend. How big would your HT room be? I'm not really looking to shake the whole house, I just would like enough to make watching movies a little more exciting.

i live in a condo with an open style lay out . 12 x 24 x 8 and that opens up to my kitchen. its kind of an odd shaped room. a little difficult to describe and i don't have my cam or i'd take a pic... i would suggest again finding a local shop with a good return policy and explaining to them you want to try out some of the various sizes and models at home before you keep it. i have read here that alot of people consider the sub the second most important speaker to the center channel ..only you can decide what sounds best to you...

Only one local shop and the manager is a real ****. I had some problems with him in the past so I have not be back to that store in 5 or 6 years and will never go back. Last spring I purchased my Denon at a store 2 1/2 hours from here and that is where I will by my sub. I'll see if I can return and upgrade if I don't have enough bass. The 2 1/2 hour drive is a little inconvenient but is worth it for the service. Thanks again.

I have listened to the B&W ASW700 10inch and ASW 12inch,they are very good, but out of your price.$1300&1600 US.
The HSU VTF3MK2 is a 12 inch sub. $699 US. A real good sub.

I'm using a couple of PW2200's in my system. Really good sub. Don't know what the price of this sub is in Cananda though. Got mine new for $675 each.

The PW2200 is close to $1000.00 up here and is one that I am considering, even though it was a little more than I wanted to spend. You have a very nice set up.

I was wondering if I was to buy a PS1000 now and add a second one latter if I wanted more base, would that be a good option. Does 2 Subs mean twice as much base or does it not work that way.

I was told that at the store i am dealing with that they have B&W ASW600 (10) for $750 and the 650 (12) for $999. So maybe I should give a listen to them while I am there also. Thanks.

Paul, If you listen to the ASW700 10 & the ASW750 12 you will hear a big differance from the ASW600.Once you hear a good sub, you will settle for nothing less.Your B&W dealer will should offer a 15% discount.Mine does..
Do not buy because of price.. I listened to a Velodyne DLS 4000R 12..Very nice sound,$429.00 from inetdistributors on ebay.

I purchased the PW2200 yesterday and set it up last night. I'm still trying to figure it all out but I am having fun. I almost went with the PS1000 but I went with the bigger sub and have no regrets. I have a pretty big room with high ceilings that opens up to the kitchen/dining area and this sub delivers all the bass that I need and more. This is my first Sub and I don't know that much about subs but I don't think that I would ever need any more bass than this. Thank you for your sugestions and comments.
