Does anyone remember the tv series "COMBAT"??

They show it daily on Encore/Action. I had forgot how good that series was. Vic Morrow does a great job as the Sarge.

I always wondered why this series didn't get more playback on other vintage repeat stations. I haven't seen it in (lots) of years but it was one of my absolute favs back in the original showing days. Much better than Rat Patrol. Vic Morrow was great as well as many other characters (Kirby). Also loved the BAR rifle.

I recently read that they have released the series on DVD as well.

So far the only thing I have found is all of season 2. It is available on two separate, 4 dvd sets. So I bought them. Precious few of the second season shows revolved around Lt. Hanley, which is a good thing. Saunders was the man.

You can tell from the intros which ones revolve which. When Vic is first during the intro, Saunders is the story. Unless they focus on one of the privates or corporals. Alot of good guest stars, too. Just saw the one with Harry Dean Stanton plays a "one man Army". I saw another with Tab Hunter playing a pro pitcher that got drafted.

I thought they did a great job, for the time, with being realistic as possible. Being a b&w show allowed for actual footage to be inserted and though the footage is obvious, it still allowed for some realism.

It's great to be able to see them again and restored at that. Oh and on Encore, they're commersial free.

Nice list.... I'd forgotten Doc.... Probably cause he was always left out when it was time for action. The most used line on the show was Sarge barking out, "Cage, Kirby, Little John."

Always thought Cage was the coolest of the unit (wasn't he a coonass minus the accent?), Also remember thinking that Kirby's BAR was so fine, but that it was more Little John's size.

I think TV Land used to show reruns, but saw where one of the 118 Starz channels now does...

Combat and Mission Impossible were two of my favorite childhood, dramatic series.

Neatest part of that show was the opening, where the jeep came flying over the sand dunes.

"Combat" was a classy, classic show.

    The cast ?

    The Cast (all five seasons):
Vic Morrow as Sgt. "Chip" Saunders
Rick Jason as Lt. Gil Hanley
Jack Hogan as William G. Kirby
    Pierre Jalbert as Caje
    Dick Peabody as Littlejohn

    Other Regulars:
Shecky Greene as Braddock ... Season 1
Steven Rogers as Doc ... Season 1
Conlan Carter as Doc ... Seasons 2 through 5
Tom Lowell as Billy Nelson ... Seasons 1 and 2
William Bryant as McCall ... Season 5

What are they doing now ?

Vic Morrow died on July 23, 1982 while filming "Twilight Zone: The Movie." His entertainment career spanned 27 years.

Rick Jason Rick died on October 16, 2000. He lived with his wife Cindy in Moorpark, California, where he kept busy running The Wine Locker, a 4,000 square-foot storage facility where people can store their favourite beverages under optimal conditions. He had just published his autobiography in July, 2000 and had returned the previous weekend from a Combat! convention in Las Vegas.

Dick Peabody passed away on December 27, 1999 from prostate cancer. Back surgery sidelined his acting career in 1985 and forced him to devote more time to writing -- which is what he has always enjoyed most. He is survived by his wife Tina who lives in the Sierra foothills.

After "Combat!", Conlan Carter received his commercial pilot's license. His last showbiz appearance was in a MacGyver episode in 1986. Later that year, he took a job in Florida, where he now pilots a private jet. He and wife Betty also raise oranges on a 20-acre commercial grove.

Jack Hogan worked as a casting director in Hawaii for many years, making frequent appearances on "Jake and the Fat Man" and "Magnum, P.I." He retired recently from acting.

Tom Lowell teaches Theater, Video Production, English, and American Literature, plus produces and directs all the plays at a high school in the San Fernando Valley. He is married to his second wife, Sharon.

Pierre Jalbert, who was a film editor before "Combat!", is still active in Hollywood as a film and ADR editor.

Shecky Greene performs his stand-up comedy act in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and other locations around the country.

Damn, mrbigbluelight thats so esoteric info. Rat Patrol had a certain kid cool factor to it but Combat was way beyond as a quality show.

I never saw the show "Combat" until a friend inroduced me to the DVD recordings he made from ENCORE channel. I was impressed with all of the shows that he had recorded and I am now a regular viewer! What struck me as odd was that I have never encountered this show until now eventhough I remember "Rat Patrol". I guess my childhood days of growing up in Germany watching only 1 channel of AFRTS/AFN TV limited my exposure to this program. Oh well...good stuff for me to see now!

Encore has ran an extra episode a couple times this week. Both times, they were color episodes. I don't know, but I kinda like the b&ws better for some reason. Just can't put my finger on it.

One funny thing that I've noticed is that almost everytime there is a younger women on the show, she's a knockout. The older women usually aren't but 99% of the youngins are. France must have been chock full of babes, huh??;) :D

I love the show and I'm hooked. I have the DVR set up to record every episode in case I can't catch it. I only got to see a few episodes when I was a kid and then it just disappeared. You'd think that the longest running tv show about WW!! would have been syndicated more.

Tell you what, they were some lucky effers weren't they? Saunders or someone seems to get captured in about every fourth or fifth episode. After a few months, you'd thought the Germans would have intercepted enough radio transmissions that start with..."checkmate king 2, this is white rook, over":D :D

    George,

Here's the official page and you can get all five seasons in one collection there.

    http://www.jodavidsmeyer.com/combat/main.html

It's a great site. Forums, merchandise, episode guide, etc, etc.

Let's hope they do this movie, too. It's looking like it won't but let's hope. Bruce Willis as Saunders...I can see that.
