You can now get the TEAC A-1D stereo integrated amp for $175.00. Based upon a search I did at head-fi.org, this looks like quite the bargain....probably on par with the Pioneer Elite A-35R. I just received the amp and this is quite a beast for a $175.00 amp....much bigger than my Cambridge Audio A500.

WTF? What's the retail on that? It looks A LOT more than 175. Congrats man. Is this a chip amp? Can't wait for the review.

I believe J&R list the original MSRP as $500.00, which seems high when you look at the competition....NAD, Cambridge Audio, Marantz, Rotel, etc. Not to mention integrated amps from Denon and Yamaha.
It's not a chip amp....this thing weighs a ton. -

What can I say....I am cheap. -
Mosfet, pre out (for biamp/sub possibilities), direct input, 17 lbs....
Not too shabby for the price. Got a remote?Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -

I gotta wonder about TEAC....how do they stay in business? Their offerings appear to be so random. Maybe they make so much $$ off their esoteric line?
As to the Pioneer, the majot ding against it is taht it does not have pre outs!System 1: Martin Logan Vantage, Rotel RC 1070, B&K Reference 200.2, Music Hall DAC 15.2, Yamaha 2300

Just one set of speaker outputs. Rated for speakers w/ 4 ohms minimum. -

Here's an owner's opinion on the Pioneer Elite A-35R integrated amp. You can do a search on "A-35R" at head-fi.org and you'll see many mentions of this amp. Audioasylum.com also has several post about this amp.
The A-35R is marketed by Pioneer as a second-zone amp in a multi-room system. It has a build-in phono pre-amp and a "main in" set of inputs, therefore allowing it to be used as a power amp. Imagine matching a Foreplay tube pre-amp to the Pioneer. Pioneer has lowered the A-35R's MSRP from $250.00 to $200.00, but due to Pioneer's sales policy on its Elite components, there are no authorized online dealers. My local Pioneer Elite dealer wants $200.00 and it has to be special ordered.
I will give the TEAC a workout this coming weekend....on both speakers and headphones. -

I believe TEAC's main business is making in-flight entertainment systems for airliners. Not to mention those "black boxes", aka flight recorders. -
Yea, the pioneer isnt authorized online. But i found a Bstock one for only $150, tempting.

Anyway, let us know how the Teac turns out. Basically im looking for a stereo receiver or integrated, for a dorm room setup. If anyone has any recomendations in the for $200 max, it would be appreciated.Terps Swimming!

Anyone know where to get a deal like that on its matching CD player? I believe it's the C-1D.
-
Nice to see TEAC appears to have left behind the black plastic crap stage.
-
So how does it sound?

Good question, Russ. I'd be interested to hear about the TEAC as well as anyone that owns the A35-R. I just bought a used Pioneer a35-r for the bedroom setup, but due to bad search techniques, totally missed this thread.
The Teac looks a little beefier, but probably not too much different than the Pioneer A35-R. . . I hope : )Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand
Bedroom: Samsung HPR-4252, Toshiba HD-A2, HK 3480, Signal Cable, AQ speaker cable, Totem Dreamcatchers, SVS PB10-NSD, URC MX-850 -
I have it. For the price it was definitely worth it. Drives my onix x-ls no problem and has pre outs. Solid construction, great looks. Works for me!
