CD Copiers?

I have a Harmon Kardon CDR 2 that has been working off and on and I was thinking of looking for something different.
Do any of y'all have any experience with CD Duplicator type of pieces that are more stereo equipment than a computer type of device? If so, which would you recommend, and maybe which would you completely steer clear of if you have experience with them.
Thank you very much....

I personally am a fan of the Yamaha CDR/Hard Drive recorders. However they are kinda pricey. But the flexibility and record quality is great.
If you are just looking for a very basic inexpensive disc to disc copier I would probably look to Sony. Simple to operate, and pretty consistent. However I am a bigger fan of the HK copiers like the one you already have. At my previous job we had the Sonys, HKs, TDK, etc... and everyone preferred the HKs. All the others seemed to toast discs, or have other small recording errors more frequently.
Just my 2 cents worth.HT

HK doesn't make them any more, so i don't think they're an option any more.......comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

I use a Philips CDR 785. Its alright. Its a combo burner with a 3 disc carousel. It fails to recognize quite a few discs when trying to burn. Its an older unit too (I inherited it) so, I doubt you could find one, unless you look on the bay.

I recommend to you a Yamaha Cd recorder like the CDR-HD1500. It's great. All Yamaha recorders has very good reputation around the world. Same as cd players or changers. The CDC-685 is fantastic. Great sound quality and features for low priceMy current new system (step by step )

Except that I'm looking for a CD to CD copy, not a hard drive version. I could do that with a laptop...........but the probelm i'm having is many of my CD's are mixes and there aren't breaks between tracks. Recording these things to a hard drive it introduces breaks and chops the cd up. I can't/won't get over that, so I want a dual tray type of unit.comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Brett,
Do you have a price range you are looking at?
I've been researching these for an install and haven't come across very many yet.
Sony make a burner with 5 discs on one side and a single disc on the other: Sony RCD-W500C
From what I've seen so far, it runs anywhere from $250-$300.
Denon/Marantz make a professional version that runs around $600: www.d-mpro.comTschüss

Maybe a Denon or Marantz is too much .... (depend your bucks...) but insist, the best product you can buy in the price-quality relation is a Yamaha recorder. Forget about Sony pure crap changers and recorders.
Maybe Pioneer or Technics is other good option....My current new system (step by step )

I'd heard about the Sony.......and I'm mostly anti-sony if I can help it....
The Denon Pro stuff looks a bit on the ugly side......however......that link got me HERE so I think this looks more like what I'm wanting. Can't say I'm thrilled though with the lagging 2x record speed max though..........comment comment comment comment. bitchy. -
Yeah, that is actually the one I was talking about. I thought I had found it under the pro side of things.Tschüss

That looks like a nice machine, but you're right it is pretty sluggish. Even my Yamaha CDR/HD is quicker. It will read a disc to the HD at around 10x and then burn to cd-r at 8x. It was slightly quicker than the 4x machines at work.
However despite it being slow you're sure to have good quality.
EDIT: You've probably already seen this one from Marantz, but just in case.

Brett - I'm not sure how much it costs but a friend of mine uses the Alesis Masterlink. He's burned some jazz compilations for me and they're sonically outstanding. Definetly the best Redbook burns I've heard.
Just giving you some perspective.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Why do you post this **** a week late Brett? I just basically GAVE AWAY a two drawer Phillips machine, CDR-775. I let it go for $50, and if I had liked the guy at all, he could've had it for $40. If I liked him a lot, $30.

Its not really that involved.
Using Nero software, (which I would recommend above all others) you just select New> Disk Copy>, then select the source and the burn drive the same. Put in the first disk, it rips it to the hard drive in about 40-50 seconds, then it ejects, and asks you to put the blank in. Change the disks, and close. It starts up again automatically. There is an option to automatically delete the temp copy on the hardrive when the burn is complete, which I always use. Its really very painless and the whole process is much quicker than you expect. In fact, it is probably quicker than a stand alone copier. The additional benefit to using computer burners is that you are not limited to using the "Audio" CD-Rs, which I've read that some of the stand alone burners require.
FYI, Nero does not introduce any 2 second gaps if you are doing a "Disk Copy". It only adds the 2 sec if you are burning a new compiliation, but again, you can change that to zero if you want. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
GG....it's not really that I *need* a different copier......I just *want* one......(internal dialogue: yes dad, they are STILL the same)........ha
Doro, those look intersting.....I'll have to go and check those out somewhere.......I just know for sure that I'm not buying a Sony ANYthing if there are other options.
Bill....I do have Nero, so I'll have to check that. I've only had it loaded on my laptop for about 2 weeks, so haven't really messed around with it much.comment comment comment comment. bitchy.
