fellas,

I have heard around that there is supposed to be a Hd radio coming out. The station is supposed to broadcast regular stereo and one in 5.1 surround and Cd quality. I work at CC and get questions if the recievers have the HD tuner(for the radio) built in. I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of a Hd radio and if you have, just give me the scoop of how this works and when its coming out.

Thanks guys,
tommyboy

Go to cyberscholar.com, it's a retailer education site where you can learn to your heart's content, and win prizes too. They just recently added HD Radio, which is getting set to make a big time push. The quarterly grand prize for just the HD Radio section is a Yamaha RXV4600 (I think MSRP is $1999) and there's lots of others.

Also ibiquity.com will tell you what stations are on the air in HD in your area.

No surround sound in HD Radio, at least yet. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens if XM's surround sound channels take off.
    Its CD-like quality.
Check out the car audio dept at CC... they should have some HD Radio headunits floating around there.

My next radio will be HD. Four out of the 8 presets on my car radio say they are now broadcasting in HD (NYC area). I haven't heard it yet, but I would assume there would have to be some sort of improvement (I'm hoping better reception at least).

The main rock station here in KC broadcasts the HD radio signal. Wish I had an HD radio receiver.

You won't be getting better reception, at least currently (and maybe not for a long while), but you won't hear all the extra noise and crap when you start losing the signal. Either you've got the signal and its perfect, or you're going to be switched back to the analog signal until you can grab the digital again.

And yes, the SQ improvement is dramatic.

Out here in KC I can tell the difference in sound quality when I see the digital info passing on the head unit. When no digital trailer info then I know its analog and will most defintely will be hit with fades.
