Yeah, I'm filing that under TMI, too.

Anyhow, given that film is far sharper than HD, I gotta disagree with the idea that current resolutions are sufficient. Maybe on a small TV, but even on my 30" TV I can immediately tell when the shows are HD- and my eyesight SUCKS.

Im more excited by the new surround sound formats that will come from HD-dvd & blu-ray than the enhanced screen resolution.

Bizill is right. I just got done hanging at a friends house that has a 62" DLP Toshiba and you have to have high def or else it just looks like crap. We played fight night #3 on the ole' X-Box 360 and let me just say wow it was amazing except the sound because he uses Cerwin surround system with a Klipsch Sub and I told him that if he ever wanted to hear a really nice sound system to come on over and be prepared for the jaw dropping effect.

Have you happened to watch Island Fever 3? I saw the trailer and the detail is beyond amazing. I think its a 720p movie.

Uhhh... damn near all of them use film. Use of DV cameras has been very limited- mostly indie films. Lucas & others have been pushing for all digital distribution, but only a few films have been recorded that way & they all use cameras with resolutions well beyond 1080. Also, for digitally enhanced shots (or any rendered shots) they have to do the resolution waaaaay beyond 1080. It has to be sharp enough that people aren't going to notice pixels on a 50 foot screen. So- there might be few indie films that won't get anything from HD, but just about anything pre Canon XL-1 and post Star Wars Episode 1 work just fine.

I fall back to my excuse of not being a film expert :)
