Correct hookup for PSW10 and Onkyo TX-SR601..

I know there is a ton of advice out there for sub hookup but just wanted to know if this was ok with my specific set up. I have the receiver set to subwoofer ON, front, center, back set to small (my front speakers are older Bose 601's but they don't have real solid low handling so I prefer to keep them on small). The rest of the speakers are all Polk. X over is set to 80. Now my question is....how should I adjust the sub itself? I have the line coming from receiver sub out to Y split to in on the sub left and right in. If I make adjustment s to the crossover on the sub will it even matter or will I be competing with the crossover from the receiver? So how should I set it? And also It seems like I really need to have the sub level turned up to 75% or so to hear it with the receiver level set for general tv listening (specifically around 35). Is that normal?

I know thats alot but thanks to anyone who offers some advice or suggestions.

I have the same set-up. Turn the sub x-over all the way up. This will avoid conflict. I setup my sub with the volumn set to 50-55. It blends well in the 40-up range, but is almost unnoticable below 35-38 with most material. I only listen to it below 40 if I am trying to sleep.

Thanks man. I assume you mean to turn the x over to 160. But doesnt that mean all source below 160 will be going to the sub? I mean whats the point of setting the receiver x over to 80? Regardless of the reciever x over setting, the subs x over still works right? Just a little confused. Do you have all of your speakers set to small and the x over at 80 on the receiver? Thanks again for the reply.

The reciever will not send anything above 80. By moving the sub x-over to 160 you remove it from the equation. The reciever will do all of the processing.

As a side note. I have my sub set to auto on. With some cd's and movies it will not turn on (detect a signal) untill it is turned up above 40.

I also boosted the sub to +3 on the reciever. It turns on at lower volumes now and I think I am at 60% +/- on the sub.

Thanks again man....yeah all of those settings you have are very similar to mine. It still seems like adjusting the sub x over to max is actually allowing anything below 160 to hit the sub. I mean I can definitley hear changes when adjusting it . IT's not like by using the right and left ins, and setting the reciever x over t0 80 w/ sub on, you are overiding the subs x over are you? I dont know, it sounds good but it just seems a little less boomy when I put the subs x over to ~ 1 o clock and the level to about 70%. Try it and let me know what you think.
