Hi all. New Polk-iemon here and first post...please be easy on me. I have my eye on a pair of Lsi15s. When I demoed them in the store the set up was thru a Yamaha 85wpc reciever and it really didn't do it justice, but I still heard the difference when they were switched back and forth with the Rti10s and the Rti12. So, I pretty much narrowed it down to the Lsi15s. My question is as much as I like the lsi15's it seems they have been out for quite a while and it dawned om me -they might be replaced/improved with a newer model soon. Have anybody here heard any news about a new line up? I tried googleing the CES 2006, but didnt find anything.

I know-I know -if I really like the lsi15 just get them-that is a thought, but I still would like to now if a newer model is coming out. Come on guys chime in if you got any 411. Thank You Polk-sters

I haven't read about the LSi series being replaced anytime soon. If you get them, make sure you get a high current receiver than can handle 4 ohm loads or separates. Look into NAD, Rotel, Outlaw, B&K, Sunfire or something along those lines if you are going to use them for Home Theater. For two channel only, a tube preamp and a good solid state amp will make them sing.

I've heard 2007 may have an update, but I heard that from a guy who heard that from a guy who... well, who knows.

Yeah man! Thanks for the advice. I currently have a onkyo 703 and getting an amp is definately in the plans. I even look forword to it. Like most people I like upgrading/improving and can't wait to try and extract the most out of everything I got. I read kmart's theard about onkyo and Lsi15 and I want to be blown away also. I'm currently looking at outlaw and sunfire amps and I guess it will come out to which I will get a better deal on.

How long on average does any particular speaker line last? Just wondering

There is supposed to be a new LSi line next year.... we're all crossing our fingers that it will be better than the current LSi. The current LSi are already great in their own right, if Polk improves on an already solid LSi line, that would be just marvelous I think.

I know lot o people that prefer RTi line (like RTi 12) instead models of LSi floorstandings. I never test hand to hand the RTi 12 with LSi 15 at same receiver...anybody try this ???

The only new products at CES2006 were the SurroundBar, In-Wall speakers and the I-Sonic. No traditional loudspeaker changes were displayed or mentioned.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Yeah-the store I was in had one of those super speaker/reciever switching components things. I asked to listen to three Rti10-Rti12-Lsi15. He ran them thru a yamaha 85wpc reciever which particular model I don't know. The room and power given to them didn't do them any justice. But for what it worth, with the 10 beieg the base-the 12 and lsi15 have more punch. The 15's had clearer mids and highs then both Rti's. The lows of the 12's boomy compared to 15's. Like I said earlier the salesman-kind of a disinterested character-I didnt want to bother him to much to switch to a better power source-so basically everything sounded weak-no body. I got the idea though from what I heard, I think . But, given more power it would be more conclusive.

Yes. For me, Yamaha receivers-amplifiers works GREAT with RTi series of Polk.
Especially with Rti 10 or 12. But..you need 100W at least for enjoy completely this speakers.

    Thats a good observation...

Especially since most receivers under 1-1.5 K dont make their rated power by a land slide. Most receivers put out an amazing 25-35 watts.

The only way your going to find true watts is a seperate amp or from a receiver made by B&K, Outlaw, Rotel, Adcom, etc

Yamaha, Pioneer Elite, Denon, Sony ES, etc etc will never make their rated power. HK might, I dont know for sure.

I hope when Polk releases a new line, they will consider to drop the RTi line completely or atleast give it a new name... ;) - How many times can you make a T/M/M variation and call it "new"
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Thank you for reminding us of the realties, Vr3MxStyler2k3. Many persons forget a majority of recievers greatly overrate their recievers' power outputs.

Great care and love must be taken to select just the right reciever.
Can't just buy somthing with a "denon" brand tag slapped on it can all it a great reciever.

The rating is valid, as it is in reality created, it just depends on what you consider audible distortion and whether it's one or all channels. The distortion rate is negligible, what's problematic is whether it's an all channels driven rating...in Sony's case, it is not an accurate figure.

    Very well put.

As for LSi replacement, don't hold your breath. You would die from lack of oxygen. I'm not saying it won't come out in 2007, but its not right around the corner or anything.

I spoke with somebody at CES, and don't bother pm'ing me for names I won't give it out but Polk Audio does have plans, when I can't confirm. What I can tell you is that my source says they'll be trying to do what they orginally wanted to do with the LSi's and that was create a monster speaker ala SDA which was their intention all along. Expect multiple drivers while still using the Vifa tweeter.

Don't hold your breath. Perhaps you should re-evaluate the source.

Unless you work for Polk Audio, I have no idea how you can make that statement, but whatever.

He technically has worked for Polk. I think the work was pro bono though :) If you were at CES, you saw some of his work (along with Russ).

Not to change the subject of the thread but... In an update of the Lsi series, what changes, if any, would you like to see stylistically? (is that a word?).

I personally never really dug how they looked that much. Too 1980's. Im not a big fan of piano gloss black though so maybe thats it. Plus the ebony wood always looked weird to me. I like cherry much better, but a more glossy cherry would be cool. Ideally they would have many choices of veneers like the SVS ultras. I have always liked the Revel Salons, those are some damn sexy speakers if you ask me.

I think the same. The RTi12 looks better than LSi 15 I.M.H.O. (i like the piano finish but i refer to style of speakers)

maybe the LSi series are more "elegant", but the RTi series has more agressive look, more ....beauty !!!!
