Wiring Rear Speakers Help

I'm trying to figure out how to run wire for two rear speakers to be mounted on the rear wall. My house is old, and there is a wall joist that runs horizontally in the wall, making this a little tricky. A custom installer told me he uses a flexible drill bit to go through the joist, but the bit is not accurate at all, and a lot of the time, he has to do some patch work. Any ideas?

If you have tall ceilings you can run it under some cown molding. You can also try running it under the baseboard molding. This is also some flat speaker wire out there that is paintable that will hide well.

If you don't want to do any patch work (and in an old house, it will probably be a lot of patch work), there really won't be a real good way to totaly hide the wires.

    Good luck.

If you have a carpet use flat speaker wire. I also live in a old house and running wires through walls was not an option so I got 12 gauge flat speaker wire for my rear channels.

Is there an attic? If so, you could run them that way, assuming the joist is below where you want to hang the speakers.

yeah i thought about running it through the attic, it just makes for such a longer run. might have to go that route though
