Hi All,
I'm very tempted to purchase a Crown 2 channel amp that is rated at 200W per channel @ 8 ohms to add to my system. I currently use a Yamaha HTR 5990 AVR. Anyone had any experience with these Crowns? Anyone know how a set of Monitor 10's would hold up/sound? Hope I'm not in the wrong forum........:)
Thanks,

What model Crown?Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Probably the cheepie......the XLS 202. Figure I wouldn't spend too much; if I didn't like it, then not much lost......
Thanks,

It will probably sound better than the AVR, but why be cheap? Get what you really want, and if you can't, SAVE until you can.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Thanks for the input Russ, you sound like my Dad.....:D
BUT....
I just spent a good bit on a new CSi5 and a new AV receiver. I like the features the receiver has but want to use its preouts for a power amp like a Crown. I guess I could add the why...
In the 80's I bought my Monitor 10's from an outfit called Stereo Village. I auditioned the speaker and was pretty much blown away. I never really got a straight answer from the salesman as to just how the speaker was powered, I just remember him saying they used a high end amp that was running around 180wpc. I know that once I got the speakers home I was never able to duplicate that sound for whatever reason. I've always suspected I never used enough current to power them. I recently read with disbelief in the 'reviews' area of this website how people described their 10's to have massive amounts of bass response while it has been my experience that that was the area that was lacking most with my pair. So I guess you could say that it is now my mission to give these speakers a chance to show me what they can do and I plan to do whatever I can in my midlife to power them up even if it means blowing them up! (I actually did kill a tweeter at one point and do realize that to underpower is criminal)
Anyway....sorry for rambling, I probably will purchase a pro amp in the 250wpc range soon..........

I recall Denon making a really good set of mono-blocks in the '80s that put out 180 watts RMS. One of the local shops around here used a set to audition their big Polks with. I wonder if it's what Stereo Village was using for your audition???
