Which one of these cable options do you think would sound best and why?

1: Very high quality 10' run of MIT Shotgun S2 cable. $1800 range.
2: Average quality 2' run of any kind of wire. $20 range.

Huh? Why are you asking that question? What difference will the 8' make?

I am assuming since you now have mono block amps, they are now located closer to the speakers and you no longer require 10' cables.

Please experiment as per your initial post; I would be interested in what you 'hear'.

I've had them before, just always kept them in the rack, but you are correct. It just seems that two feet may negate any bad effects that you may get at 10 feet??

but then wont you have to figure in the longer interconnects to get to the mono's?

i would guess the MIT would sound better, who knows though :confused:

You know you can order single cables from MIT right?
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Assume everything between the upstream components are constants, i.e IC's remain the same. I also assume that the speakers and amp can take the bare wire. With that says, I will spend all $20 on 4 feet of Monster Z2 which should be above average. The MIT's are good but 8 feet longer. Therefore, I bet #2.

Shorter wire may sound a fraction of a db louder, which, if perceived, may be interpreted as 'better'.

So I could order like a 2' or 3' speaker cable?

Looks like the standard starting length is 8 feet, which happens to be the length some cable designers say their speaker cables start to sound their best. Not sure if this is the case with MIT. It looks like the box and required connectors themselves would be about 2 feet long for the Shotgun series.

I have a couple pieces of Canare 4S11 laying around you could have if you just want to try it....it's 4 x 14ga as you probably know. I also have a couple pieces of Belden 5T00UP which is 2 x 10ga. Both use high quality, thick copper strands.

I've ordered a single 4ft S3 IC....I'm sure Joe would know if it's possible for speaker cable. I also have 4 inch MIT Oracle jumpers for the Magnepans.

Why don't you connect one channel each way and tell us what you think?

Thanks for the offer but I think I still have some AQ Type IV which should be about the same.

Good point Emlyn, I hadn't thought of that. Ha ha, just a box with the leads sticking out. :)

MIT and a host of other high end speaker cable companies will not make their cables any less than 8 feet in length and their IC's no less than 1 meter. There is a technical explaination which escapes me right now, but I'm sure a call to any of them will get you the answer.

My vote, #1 because I know MIT cables sound better.
