What type of budget are you looking? If you are not in a hurry, watch www.outpost.com for Polk's R30's, R15's and a CSi25. The 30's on sale can be found for $125-$150 a pair, the 15's will usually run you around $50 a pair, while the CSi25 can be found for between $75-$100.

The Polk satellite system should definitely beat the Onkyo HTiB, but neither are anything to write home about, imo. It really depends on what you're looking for and what your budget is. okiepolkie's suggestion is a good one. If you could piece that system together for about $250-$300, it'd be much better.

thanks for the quick replies.I can get all the speakers I mentioned for about 250 or less.I was just wondering if these were any better than my onkyo's or if I should just wait and try to piece together some better speakers. my budget is about 300-350. thanks all... kyle I hate to ask, but would a cheap flaunce 6.1 set be worth it? and are the the same quality as the lower end polks?

I can't comment on the Flaunce setup, but like I said with the Polk, they should be better than the Onkyo HTiB. However, one doesn't typically move up from a HTiB to another HTiB. None of them are going to be *good*. The next real step up would be to piece together a system with bookshelves/towers for mains, and bookshelves for rears and center. That would be a vast improvement, and the system that okiepolkie 'pieced together' is not much more than this Polk satellite system.

However, you don't have to go with the R30/R15/CSi25. If you pass on the satellite system and thus are no longer governed by time restraints, I would watch the Flea Market. There are usually good deals to be had on speakers, and if you're patient, you just might be able to piece together a real nice system for not too much money.

thanks all for the replies.I just thought these were a good deal and didn't want to miss them.(4 sattelites for 150.00)If they are about the same as htib speakers, then I definately wait and try to find some better deals on some better speakers. what would you all reccomend for a 6.1 for < 500-600 total?maybe a little more.I will keep my sub for now and will add another one later.( you can include one for me if you want, but seperate cost.) thanks for all your GREAT help!!......kyle

Since you are not opposed to going used, you can put together quite a system for that price range. Look at some the Polk RT series speakers on ebay. It helps if they are of the same model year, but some of them are reasonably interchangable.

Whenever you need help, just let us know. Where are you located? Some of us might be able to let you listen to the surround systems we have put together. I'll look at some of the options tomorrow when I actually have a little time.

    BTW, welcome to the forum.

edit: sorry for ending my post abruptly earlier, I had to leave in a hurry.

I live in wichita falls,tx.and bestb and circutc are pains in the butts about letting you listen to and try stuff unless you have a gold card in your hands.as are the home theater stores here. the only advice I have is from you all and I appreciate all your help. I will look on ebay for some more deals. so what would be the ideal center,mains(tower-not bookshelves)and 3 surrounds on a budget that will be mid level quality to piece together? please spell it out for me,as I know nothing about models and series.a full grouping if you will(6.1). I'm sure alot of you had your first speaker set and have upgraded when you got the mega bucks.tell me what you started with and how it sounded and what reciever you used that has at least 100w per channel.( I just learned that my onkyo 600w is only really 45-50 watts per channel!....what a rip! and I will have to keep it for awhile. thanks all!...........kyle

Hey Kyle, welcome to ClubPolk.........I think the R series towers would do you good with your Onkyo receiver. I like Zach's lineup of the R30s (tower), R15 for surrounds/rears and CSi25 center. This could easily be done for your under 600 budget with new speakers bought right. The RT/RTi lineup from a couple years back would be a step up from those and could be pieced together for something close to your budget.

Put me in the camp of those who think the rm satellites are actually pretty darn good for HT.

If you are set on floorstanding speakers for the fronts, then it will make it a little more difficult to stay on budget with the RT series, although it is not impossible.
Here are a couple of systems you might look for as you watch the used market:

    system 1:
fronts: RT400's -rare, but can be found for $150
    center: CS225 or CS250 - $75-$100
    rear: RT3's, RT5's -$75-$100 per pair

    System 2:
    fronts: RT600's or RT800's(regular or i versions $150 and $300 respectively
    center: CS245 or CS400(reguar or i $100 and $200 respectively
    rear: RT15's, RT25's, RT35's, FXi300 regular or i $75, $100, $125, $175 respectively

    System 3:
    fronts: RTi70's - $300
    center: CSi30 or CSi40 $125 and $200 respectively(CSi40 available on the forum)
    rear: RTi28, RTi38, FXi30 $140, $150-175, $175-$200

Again, these are only sample systems. You can piece them together one at a time to stay under your budget. Since you already have speakers, it doesn't make a huge difference where you start.
