Yo.. I was wondering how my m70's compare to to the Energy C-5's. My brother in law has em and they sound saweet btw! he also is running them with a marantz reciever and i'm using panisonic. Perhaps that could be the difference. I just bought the 70's and am quite happy with them but cannot help wondering if they could sound better. My reciever has pretty good specs and it is high current but no-one has much good to say about panasonic. Sucks cause i dropped a grand on it a couple years ago, before i knew what was good and what wasn't.

Yeah, that does suck. However, for around the 1g mark and under, there is no such thing as a 'high-current receiver', with the possible exception of the Outlaw 2-channel receiver. HK has the 'highest' current receivers, but compared to external amps, they're not really high current, either.
If you're looking for the next level of improvement out of your system, you should look at adding an amp if your Panasonic has preouts.George Grand wrote: »

I still have a set of e:XL series energy's that I really like. I have also spent significant time listening to their new RC-10 and was extremely impressed. I think they build an excellent speaker for the money. But then again so does Polk. It all comes down to personal taste.
Also keep in mind that your brother in law's room can play a huge part in the difference you heard.HT

so why do you need us to compare your speakers with ones your brother in law owns? Shouldn't you just take yours over there and form your own opinion?Never kick a fresh **** on a hot day.

Energy, in my experience:
Strong out of the gate, but little at the finish line.
Interesting, somewhat involving, good sound stage and image - but a hot top end that begins to sound strained, and can exhibit some listening fatigue after 45 minutes or so.

Do you happen to remember the models you listened to? Just curious because I have not experienced what you mentioned.:)

Fatigue is the last word I would use to describe Connoisseur series treble reproduction, I find them quite laid back; more laid back then Polk Lsi series in the side-by-side comparison I did. Since this appears to be a pool of personaly opinions, I'll throw mine out there, too.
I'm pretty fond of the Energy sound and would love to have some one day, particularly the C-9.George Grand wrote: »

Wes (I-SIG) has listened to my C-9's extensively, with practically all genres of music (and movies). I would personally think no. It's probably been about 3 years since I've seen the C-9, so I'm not sure, but going from memory I'd take the Energy over the Monitor. But again, all of this is strictly preference. The only way for you to know which you prefer, is for you to listen to them!George Grand wrote: »

All this talk about Energy motivated me to pull out my old e:XL series system.
I had forgotten how much I enjoy these speakers. Both the e:XL-16 bookshelf speakers and the e:XL-28p powered towers offered such good sound for the money. Both pair offer wonderful imaging, and a lively, but never harsh sound. The one thing that amazes me the most is the low end on the 28's. These towers are about 6" shorter than LSi15's and have an 8" woofer powered by a modest 100w amp, yet they are rated -3db@22hz. It is almost breathtaking how thunderous these little guys are. I think I'm going to have to leave them hooked up for awhile just for old time sake.
Thanks Jayman! Maybe this will help me keep the upgrade bug away for a little while.

The Connoisseur line is comparble to the Lsi. The Energy "Take" series would fall in line with the Rti. Take a look at any Connoisseur series speaker; build, components, binding posts, etc; far above the Rti.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I really enjoyed my Energy Take 5.2 system for years when I had a smaller room. I was quite happy with them until until I did an A-B comparison with the pair RT25i that were being used in the bedroom. That opened up a whole can of upgradeitis. I think that the Polk RT series is a step above the Take Series based on my experience. I've never heard the C series, but they've gotten excellent reviews. I don't necessarily agree that they are up to the LSi series, but they are probably a step above the RTi series. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I'm loving my Connoisseurs. Very good speakers.
-
To my ears, the C-9's are the best speakers I've owned since my 1980's era AR9Lsi's and Infinity RSIIIb's, and I've owned ALOT of speakers. The only thing that I liked better (in my price range) was the Paradigm Reference Studio 100 v.3 ($1000 more). The differences were so slight, there was no way I could justify the extra grand.

I'll chime in with my C-3's
Not quite the same as what people are focusing at such as the c-9's and the larger c series...anyway
Good speakers for sure. I don't quite have the appropriate gear...computer source...and an onkyo tx 8211.
They are great for what they use for. Solid speakers with great bass extension as well as great treble. There are differing opions but thats mine.

I used to sell the Connosseur's about 4 years ago at another retailer (who's gone now) and I always loved them then. I'd like to hear them again now that my tastes are much more defined and being an owner of LSi's. I remember liking the sound of the C7's over the C9's though. Better midrange from what I remember.

They have Conoisseurs and Reference Connoisseurs now, so Dave was referring to the new Conoisseurs (C500 $700/pr). Refcons are $1000-2000/pr. -
