Noob In Need Of Help
Hi -
After extensive research for my HT I decided to go ahead with an entire Polk system. I purchased the entire LSI line. I have the LSIC, the 2 LSI15s, the LSIFX surrounds and a PSW1000 wooofer. My question is my amplifier. I ended up spending a mere $1k on the ONKYO TX-SR803 amplifier. I purchased my pieces from a variety of places and they have not all arrived yet. My question is this - did I vastly underestimate what I needed to power this system as it is only 105 watts per channel? I'm afraid that it will not adequately power this system. If it will not are there any alternatives or suggestions as to which models, etc. or other amps would help. I would appreciate any advice. I don't want to have to break the bank for a new amplifier so I am curious if the ONKYO would be sufficient. Thanks!

Hi Pussyfish and welcome to the Forum. Congratulations on your system. Looks like you have some real nice speakers headed your way. The Onkyo will power your fronts, but you'll probably be looking for some more power. Those LSi's like a lot of power. The Onkyo will probably be okay for your center and surrounds. You may want to add a separate amp just for the fronts in the future. You can pick up a nice two channel amp, connect it to your front pre-outs on the receiver. This is much cheaper than getting a new receiver. Good luck and welcome to the Forum!Carl

Here is the most recent thread on the LSi/Onkyo theme. This one made it 4 pages. I recall it being the 803 also.

Welcome to the Forum and nice choice of speakers.
In answer to your question.......sorta. The onkyo will power those speakers and it will sound okay, but it could sound much better. A good power amp, whether a 5ch or a 3ch for the fronts could offer huge improvements. Of course this can be done at a later date if cash flow is an issue.
Here is a list of amp manufacturers to consider.

For me, the LSi lines works better with Denon amplifiers (Like AVR-3805/6) or Yamaha (like RX-V1600/2600) than Onkyos. IMHO.
Never tried Harman Kardon, but i suposse that are excellent too.My current new system (step by step )
