Many of the companies are not publicly traded companies, and many are simply part if larger audio conglomerates. You will not be able to determine how many speakers each one sells unless they want to "market" that fact.

Ohh ...****. The japanese companies like Yamaha, Casio, Honda, etc, etc. publish your "investor relations" with a complete info about sales, cash flows, operating income, net income, etc. I like this data !!! but...it's different with "other countries" brands...:(

I believe that JBL is the largest speaker seller, on the commercial end.

It has nothing to do with the difference in countries. The companies you mentioned (Sony, Casio, etc) are publicly traded companies that must provide information for investors/stockholders.

Privately held companies like Polk, Klipsch, Martin Logan have no duty to do so.

Harman International has stockholder info (Infinity, JBL, Harman Kardon, Lexicon, Revel) but you typically will not find individual brand data, but rather group data. The same is true for D&M holdings (Denon, McIntosh, Marantz, Boston, Snell, etc) of Japan where you can find division/group data, but not individual brand sales.

I remember hearing more than one Klipsch rep claim that they are the #1 selling brand of loudspeaker.

Of course I never saw any reports to verify this. So take it for what it's worth (if anything).

An article dated January 5, 2006 in TWICE.com (This Week In Consumer Electronics) revealed Top 10 sales leader in all catagories of consumer electronics. All information is based on retail point-of-sale data for the period of January through October 2005. For home speakers, the following are the top 10 in 2005....

    1. Klipsch
    2. Bose
    3. Polk Audio
    4. Infinity
    5. JBL

Top 5 brands comprising 54.7% of market

    6. Definitive Technology
    7. Sony
    8. Boston Acoustics
    9. Velodyne
    10. Yamaha

Top 10 brands comprising 73.1% of market

Surprisingly, no Canadian (Energy, Paradigm, Mirage, etc.) or European brands (B&W, Tannoy, Mission, etc.) made the top 10. Oh, this info is most likely for the US market only.

The problem is that info is "RETAILER" based and not info from the mfgs. And the retailers are who? BB, CC, Tweeter Frys, etc...The big box retailers. I am willing to bet none of the info from the "specialty" shops and small chains gets factored in. Check out the brands the big box guys sell and check the top ten.... See any correlation? I also think the TWICE numbers are US retailers only.

OK Danny. I check this page "TWICE" to see this rankings.

i'm surprised with JBL 5th place. I think the most comercial speaker brand should by placed in 2nd or 3rd place. GREAT POLK.

Man that sucks that sony is on top on most of those formats. I just dont have much faith in them with the other products I have owned. They just make great monitors/TV's IMO.
    Harman Kardon AVR635
    RTi10's Up Front
    CSi5 Center
    RTi6's Rear Surround

Yeah..it's true. Really suck. But Sony is the most comercial brand in the whole audio world. the "normal" people buy their products instead your mediocre/normal quality (except TV category).

Everybody here (audio consumers) that, for example, Yamaha or Denon has a FAR better Cd players than Sony. But ... :( (the market is important)

I heard yesterday from a compeititor that Klipsch is No. 1 in terms of number of subs sold (units not dollars). So I believe this maybe true.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers
    Oppo BDP-83SE

The original Acoustic Research had a 30% market share, the highest share ever in the loudpeaker market. The other 70% was divided among companies named Klipsch, James B. Lansing, Altec-Lansing, Bozak.......
