Has anyone ever used or are using one? How are they? I may be in need of one soon and was just wondering how they are. Yeeeeeears ago I used to hear (nothing official, just always rumor type stuff) horror stories of them being broken into but I'm sure that's old news.

Thanks,
Scott

I had one when I was in Phoenix....

Check the difference in heights of the unit on the ground floor vs. upper. I got a ground floor unit that was 10' tall instead of the 8' in the upper levels. They price according to W & D, not H.

I had a unit that had a gated entrance and was on camera. I also made sure that my unit was as close to the office as possible (more camera focus, people always there, etc).

    Good luck.

I have one in a pretty crappy area and have had no problems. That being said I wouldn't put anything immensely valuable in one.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I too had one in a an ok area of town. It was temp controled but not humidity. So if you will be storing certain items which require humidity control, make sure you look for that.
Mine was nothing but a 4x8 plywood casing about 10ft tall I never had a problem and I did not end up either with bugs.

My family had a few for a while and had no problems (3 of us were moving in & out of houses at the same time). This one was actually in a pretty crappy part of town, but the place was very nice. Most of the new storage places (chain ones) put a lot into security. This had a high gate with card access, cameras everywhere, 24hr on-site security (be it only an over weight guy with a blue shirt) and indoor climate controled storage (if you needed it).

    Thanks for the replies guys...

If I end up do needing one, I won't be putting anything of great value in it.

I wouldn't store anything that I wouldn't be comfortable storing in a garage or outside shed at home. I also recommend storing things off the floor, on 4x4's or pallets.

ALWAYS put your stuff on pallets in a storage unit. We had one for a few months, over the winter, last year while we were building our new house and living temporarily in a smaller place. When we came back in the spring to empty it out, the floors would get puddles of water on the floor when you had the door open. The concrete just does that!

Make sure the location has a good entry method (locking gate, keyless entry, that type of thing) and make sure the unit itself has a good lock on it.
    Ludicrous gibs!

I was thinking of living in one when I was between wives and paying alimony! $80/month with electric for a good size room.
