I tested the RX-V757 (2005 model) and highly recommend to you. Anyway, I choose the RX-V657 for save $$$. (The 757 has more power...an intelligent remote control with LCD, aluminium volume knob, etc...only details. The BIG difference exists between 457/557 to 657/757)
Both receivers (I tested two) sounds great, fantastic for movies (thanks to YPAO and numerous DSP setting for example) and excellent to listen music. Yamaha has a sound little bright than others...(i like the sound bright..NOT TOO BRIGHTER) and that is the reason i buy it. I love it. If you want other sound, adjust the tone controls. If you put, for example, TREEBLE = -2.0db and BASS = +1.0 db, you've got a normal sound.
I found the sound in this receivers very clean...VERY CLEAN. Same level as Denon and superior to Pioneer (IMHO). But inferior to Marantz (obviously).
For the price...you must consider this receiver (suposse the 750 has great too), listen movies and music and make your conclusions.
NOTE: I tested this receivers with Polk Monitor 50, Monitor 30, Yamaha NS-555, Infinity Primus 160, JBL E-60, klipsch ..(i don't remember the model) .. and sounds GREAT, FANTASTIC with POLK and INFINITY. again, IMHO.
Try yourself !!!! bye.My current new system (step by step )

MTL,
Love that city, we are up there a couple times a yr.
about your 757, it is a good receiver, it's in the mid-upper levels of the yamaha line. Depending on what deal you can get, it may be worth it or you might want to get the 657 and buy an external amp. Yammies do tend to be tad bright and their specs are inflated. Check around you can get amazing deals on last years models. I paid 550$ for HK335.
The receiver 757 is loaded with options if that's what you like, it will have enough power for your speakers.
