Designed in, engineered in, manufactured in, headquartered in? You're going to need a more specific definition. Not sure we are going to find a component that has it all happening in one chunk of territorially defined earth.

As far as I'm concerned, America is still building the world's best preamps and amplifiers. KRELL, McIntosh, B&K, Pass Labs, just to name a few. As far as speakers, that's way too individual to say definitively. There are lots of great products out there, but the U.S. still has the best amp companies on the cutting edge of R&D and with the best of intentions (high current, clean, musical, etc).

Oh, and as fine as other subs can be, I'm still a firm believer that Martin Logan makes the best subs, and they're in Kansas. Great speakers too.

No sure, but my future speakers are made in Canada (Fidelity Acoustics) and the equipment will be Naim (British). Then again, what the hell do I know?

the Brits seem to do alot of right things with their electronics over many many years now. as for speakers.. i can't say. I don't have enough experience with different brands. Although the Wharfdales I have heard I have been pretty impressed by. Running off all NAD gear. NAD pre, amp and CDP.

Brits pioneered the 'Dual Concentric' drivers. Having both tweeter and mids in one driver. Also the 'super tweeter' that goes up to 51khz and 100khz. But have them built in Asia. :p
Gear: Rotel RC 1082, Rotel RSP 1068 pre/pro, Rotel RMB1077 amp, Cayin CDT 15a CD player, S301 bluray.

    Conditioner: Isotek :D

    My opinion

SPEAKERS: USA ... (anyway, the most USA speakers brands are "made in China", but I like POLK, BOSTON, INFINITY...maybe some models of JBL)

ELECTRONICS: JAPAN ... (except for the end of the line like Yamaha DSP-Z9 or top Denon models (really made in Japan) all are "made in China or indonesia") but...is supervised for japanese companies....world leaders in quality and developing of electronics.

    Bye
My current new system (step by step :D)

    A/V Receiver: YAMAHA RX-V657
    DVD Player: YAMAHA DVD-S657
    Main Towers: polkaudio® Monitor 50
    Wiring: NeoTecH KS1007 OFC High Definition Speaker Cable ( 2 x 2.64 mm² )

I'd say American electronics(amps/pre's)...just for the sheer numbers alone...Krell, Levinson, Jeff Rowland, VAC, NuForce...these are impact players.

British electronics (sources) Naim, Linn, Rega, Meridian...

Danish Speakers. While people mention Canada and the States, most of the drivers used in these speakers come from companies from Denmark like DynAudio, Scanspeak, Vifa etc...the British, US and Canada produce lovely speakers but the best drivers in the world all seem to come from the same small country in Europe.

In my opinion there is no such thing as the best loudspeaker or the best electronics or a superior country of manufacture.
there are outstanding high end audio companies all over the planet.if you find out what your likes and dislikes are you can balance your preference with what you can afford. thanks...WCW III
