Hmm, that look interesting. Is this that OS I heard about a while back that was supposed to use a 3D desktop? The desktop was supposed to be like a cube, with different icons and such on each face, and you could just 'scroll' through the different faces.

It was originally named Longhorn or something like that. It's just yet another OS from Microsoft, don't know how excited I'd be about it.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Longhorn, that's it! That's the name of the OS I was talking about. So, they're both one and the same?

I've heard its going to have about 8 different versions. Like XP had Home and Pro, Vista is going to offer 8 flavors. Also, its supposed to be, at the higher settings, VERY demanding of your graphics card.

One person I know that works at MSFT is pretty worried about Vista. They think its going to be a real stinker.

Yeah, they renamed the project about 6 months ago.

It should be interesting. I think the guys at work received a pre-release copy a while ago. I'll have to see if they've played with it at all yet.

Me and a former coworker at my old job loaded a Beta version on a laptop to see what it was like back in September.

It looked very nice. Alot of flashy stuff. We didn't get to play with it much, just hopped into several areas.

Reading into the IT Professional portion on the linked page, it looks like some nice enhancements. I wouldn't screw with it until service pack one arrives. If you have an extra PC you can use just to screw up and test on, then go for it. Thats probably what I'll do. Rebuild my dead one and use it to test.

I'm actually using XP Media Center on my new desktop. It's very nice. Other than the actual Media Center portion (that is hidden until you launch it), it's pretty much straight forward XP.

I've used Vista a bit and I am plannig on installing it on one of my machines (I can get a Beta version) It is pretty neat but, on the computer I was using just seemed like a reskinned XP with a few changes to the menus

Just read this from Gizmodo about the flavors of Vista:

Windows Starter 2007: Not Vista at all because it doesn’t include the Aero graphics and will only be shipping as a 32-bit version.
Window Vista Home Basic: This will be available in a North American (N) and European (EU) version. Pretty much like XP Home. They are forcing two versions because the Euros have antitrust rulings against Microsoft that do not allow a media player to be included.
Windows Vista Home Premium: This one is similar to Media Center Edition. It will include functionality of the Home Basic release with media functionality out the wazoo.
Windows Vista Business: Think of it like an XP Pro that is aimed towards IT people. It will also have two different releases depending on country.
Windows Vista Enterprise: This is like a super-operating system. It will have all of the goodness of its lower counterparts while also including features like virtual PC, multi-language support and advanced encryption technologies.
Windows Vista ULTIMATE: This is the top dog. It supposedly does everything you could ever want in an operating system, and make you some toast. All of the functionality of all of it’s Vista counterparts and it has ultimate in the name, who could go wrong with an operating system like this.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I think it's great that it's coming out, it will make my next XP based upgrade even cheaper.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
