I think both of these AV receivers have the option of using the surround back channels to bi-amp your mains...
I have the Pioneer Elite 54tx and I can select the option "front bi-amp" for my 6th and 7th channels..
does anybody do this or is it not worth it unless you use separate amps?

did you try pioneer tech help, or their faq's on their site. Personaly I don't know how, but I'd star looking over there.

It won't *really* help that much, because you're still going to be using the same power supply and trying to run everything from the same unit. I can't say that you won't see any benefits, but if you do see any they won't be nearly as obvious and dramatic as adding an external amp would be.
But hey, try it out. See what it does for ya.George Grand wrote: »

The real idea behind bi-amping is to use two completely seperate amplifiers, not another zone in the same unit. Sure it can be done, but with very little or no effect at all. You are using the same transformer, PS rails, power cord, current limiting circuit, output configuration, etc, etc. It's of no advantage, even if the user manual says so. If you have pre-outs and want more power, a seperate amplifier is an alternative.

I guess for lack of a better term it's marketing. It does what they say it does, but the result is a non-issue. Much like the CD direct and bypass Tone control switches on may AVR's. These work as they say, but the result in almost all cases is nothing beneficial. I guess you can equate being uniformed to just lacking in experience. Try anything and everything and see what works for you and what doesn't work for you. Be open minded and skeptical at the same time and don't let the psychology of something get in the way of your senses, mostly your ears.
