I went into Circuit City tonight for the first time in 2years and came out depressed.

Thanks for the welcome guys, and sorry for the long winded post. Obviously the subject struck close to home for me.

Venom, I'm glad to see the words "some unions", because I see the same thing. I am now serving as a union millwright apprentice. (a job that can't be outsourced) I make more as a second year apprentice, than I ever did as a diemaker, and can look forward to a pension, and actually retiring comfortably at some point, because of the union. Some of the members of a few unions have become complacent, and are at work strictly for the check.

H9, cool another local, I see there is another guy here from Roscoe. Polk party!

No, what's killing america is our lack of health care. The biggest difference in cost for a company in america to produce a product vs a company elsewhere is paying for the insurance for its workers. The biggest cost of healthcare is paying people to do paperwork. Yep. It's not malpractice insurance, supplies, education... it's moving paper from one place to another and trying to get someone else to pay for it.

Oh and the other nice thing about universal health care: you'd bail out every industry at once, except for the health insurace industry. But everyone hates those guys anyway.

I bought the CS1, Polk m30's, m10's, and use my old Infinity Sub and it blows my dad's 2K dollar Bose system out of the water. I only spent about a grand on my whole system. Im in college and cant afford the RTi and the LSi but I cant wait to get my hands on some Rti's after i graduate. If the lower end stuff is this good I can only imagine what kind of heaven i will be in with the higher level. :)

    On the trade deficate.
    1. We can not impliment tarriffs on countries like China because eigther we have too much money invested in them or they have to much money imvested in us. We (the large companies) can not afford to have them pull their money out. Our economy would calapse

    2. Calculate the cost of a boat ride per product vs US healthcare & retirement costs. Current life expencancy is 83-84. This equals China.

    3. Study Roman history. The fall of Rome came when the empire became to dependant on forgein grain and materials to survive, etc. It is only a matter of time.

Why is Audioworld going down the crapper? Is it? I personally don't think so, and I don't think we're giving the customer enough credit, sure, people like to buy cheap, I think a good deal of us have done that.

However, if you look at the board, there are a good bit of people who have come from the cheap HTiBs to expensive component systems. I know I have, I used to have old MTX speakers, I bought them because they were big and cheap. Now I'm off buying things higher in the market. Some people buy the crap and stick with it, but a few of us, enough, get that itch (I'm sure you all have felt it :p) and upgrade! upgrade! upgrade!

Basically what I mean to say is, it's a big cycle really, with highs and lows, but there will always be constants like in any market, there will always be amazing stuff, and there will be the people to buy that, and there will always be absolute crap (Don't even tell me they didn't make absolutely terrible speakers 10-20 years ago) and while these two may change, they will always be there.

I don't see a need to go talking bad about a company is simply trying to keep ahead of the wave, in order to keep its head above water.

and FWIW, I think the surround bar is pretty clever.

Very nice sound post MJR. For a good many people it's simply about maturing ears & expanding wallets to afford better stuff. It's supposed to be that way!

I don't really give a Rat's Rump about CC because the stuff is crap and salespeople as smart as RS staff-Doh!

I know you said this a while ago drumminman but that is still a big insult to us working there. It is not our fault that cc has crappy stuff now and that CC empoyees don't know that much about audio. PEOPLE AT TWEETER(and other high end stores) MAKE COMMISION, WE DON'T!, and all the managers all the way up the ladder care about tvs much, much more than home audio(and thats where most of our trainings leans towards). That is where their profit comes from. I am considered the audio guy at my cc and I still ask entry level ?'s to you guys. But I want to know this stuff not to have CC make more money, but so when I make a major upgrade on my system, I actually know what I am doing.

Don't call the people at CC stupid, they are just uninformed and aren't motivated to learn it.

Did I call call anyone stupid? Hey, I've been in Tweeter and asked questions that the salesguy was stumped at. I know that there are informed CC salespeople, You are one of them. Did not mean to insult you. OK folks, Now Hear This, Circuit City has quite a few smarties working there, you just gotta seek them out.

    Who else have I insulted?
    Who haven't I insulted?

I was a little harsh in my past post. I was just trying to get the point out why circuit city does not have the knowledgable employees it was had. Its all about the cash. Only one person in my CC(and at most) is full time. The rest either use this as a second job or is in school. Back in the day when people worked on commission, this was considered a real job, most making about 50 grand a year or more. Now, a full time employee makes about 17. I was into selling extended warranties, cables, etc. until I heard about the commission days and realized how much I am being used and taken advantage of... Now I just do it for extra cash, accomodations, and to know more about electronics, not really about making circuit city cash.

anywho, sorry about putting you on the spot there, I just want everyone to know why CC is going down the drain:)
