but are you watching it because it's in HD or you really have interest in the competition? or a particular athlete?

No particluar interest in any athlete; I enjoy watching winter sports (figure skating, snowboarding..). And...to be honest, if I did not have HD I would probably not be watching as much as I am :)

Watching it when I can. It seems we (those of us who are Americans) aren't doing all that well. Bode Miller was a major disappointment, the Mens curling team is just ok, Apollo Anton Ono is almost not mentioned. The Russians dominated the pairs skating and the womens downhill skiers were mediocre at best. We'll see how men's hockey does. Really, if I had other things to do I'd skip it entirely. Certainly won't go down as one of the most memorable Winter Olympics.

I haven't really been sparked to watch much. The Hockey has turned into a bunch of crap with all the NHL people. Gone are the days of the 1980 Hockey team with a bunch of nobodys pulling off one of the biggest upsets in history.

I'll probably catch the girls figure skating. Hope Sasha Cohen pulls this off and brings home the gold. Would be very cool to see Marylander Kimmie Meissner pull off an upset, but Cohen is on a roll right now. Then again, the last Olympics saw Sarah Hughes come out of nowhere to snag the gold.

    I prefer Summer Olympics anyway.

I've been a fan of Olympic skiing for years going back to the days of Jean-Claude Killy (1968) when I was just a kid. Living in the South we don't do much skiing and it sort of facinated me at the time. The downhill ROCKS! I don't follow the sport except for during the Olympics. I like watching the events where there are winner's based on going faster or farther. The "performance" sports like figure skating, half pipe, moguls, aerials, etc.. (anything with judges and style points) are a waste and just plain boring IMO. I like the fact in the timed events if you make a mistake (like Bodie or the 2 man luge team) you're done. Unlike figure skating were you can miss a tripple toe clusterfuck and still win the gold on "style". I also like the winter Olympics because the Americans are generally underdogs and the accomplishment seems greater.

I get the headlines in the morning, read the stories during the day and when I start watching in the evenings, it's replay of the stuff I read about. Not exciting.

I was about to start this thread because I haven't heard much from people on it.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit (since it is in HD, I'm watching more than I probably would if it wasn't). I like the moguls & downhill for the skiing. The combined wasn't bad either, with the US upset. (he's now favored for the slalom). Bodi still has a chance in the GS & Super-G. And luckily I was able to catch the action packed curling match yesterday (it looks like the silliest thing, but some reason I really like it). I caught the beginning of today’s match, but then had to leave (hopefully they will air the rest). Speed skating is kinda cool as well (both long and short track). Short is better than long, but we have a good chance on the long track for 2 more golds. The skating I really don’t care to much about, but I watch a little. We have that “rebel” American currently in second. He seems like quite the jerk in real life though. (a tough acting figure skater, what is he trying to prove?).

Yup.. and that's all that seems to be on.

Give me speedskating (not the short-track variety either), anything flying down a Bobsled track and any skiing where a flip is bad thing...

I really like the down hill and I especially like speed skating, but my favorite is ski jumping, that has got to be a huge rush flying through the air! I can also watch the bobsledding. I agree with whoever said they don't care for the judged events because over the years there has just been way too much politics involved, like in the last Winter games in the pairs when they went back after the fact and awarded the gold to the Canadian pair also..what a joke. Hockey..man I hate hockey!!!!!!! Oh, I almost forgot the games look great in high def.

This amazes me! According to the sources there were 27 million households watching that arse sucking show, American Idol and only 16 million watching the Olympics. This country is full of idiots, GOD help us!!!

To me "sport" should have points or goals or runs scored. Trying to do something as fast as possible or judging who does it with the best style is boring. Hence the olympics are dumb. Hockey is ok though.

So anything having to do with track and field, any form of racing involving human physical performance, swimming, weightlifting, etc. are not "sports"? Interesting concept....since all of the above occured long before there was a single "point" or "goal" scored. They are what all sports derived from and are the purest form of sport.

    I'm hopeless. :)

I'm an Olympics addict, even though I hate most of what the network does with the "up close and personal" overblown drama -- I hate the sappiness. I don't even like the figure skating all that much and I'll still watch it (heh, though my grandmother, mom and girlfriend *do* love the figure skating...) I started watching Olympics when i was a kid, I can remember watching in the early 70s, and all the way up until now. I've watched every night's broadcast this week (and, though hard to believe, other than this, I watch maybe 25 hours of TV shows a *year*, everything else i watch is on DVD).

I also hate men's Olympic hockey now that it's gone pro. *yawn* Though the women's hockey is still kinda fun.

I love *all* the skiing and snowboarding events. Speedskating is fabulous! So is bobsledding! And the luge. And the skeleton. Biathlon is a tough, tough sport, and we'll never own it like we currently own snowboarding.

I wish the total focus on USA achievement on behalf of our media would widen to include other countries. I'm interested in more than just my own country...
