SDA-SRS setup

Hello everyone, quite new here. Mr. Nut thank you for your pointers in the other thread. Got some questions about setting up the POLKs. I was complaining about the sound from the SRS before and went back and check the speakers again and TAH DAH found that I switched the left and right speaker. The two speakers looked exactly the same so I did not pay attention to which was left and right (normal speakers you don't need to). It sounds better now, I also was able to tame the harshness a bit with the help of an EQ. Anyway, my listening room is a 1 car garage that was converted into a music room. How should I position the speakers? How far from the back wall, from the side wall? How much toe in should be? What is the best listening position? I found that at closer distance to the speakers you must stand to be in the sweet spot so I kept moving the chair back until it is almost at the rear wall to my liking. Please see the attached pics to get an idea of how big my listening room is. Sorry file is too large again, will try again next time.

Glad to have been of help.
As for set up, start with the speakers 6 feet apart, 3 feet from each side wall, about 5 or 6 inches from the back wall and NO toe in. Ideal seating can vary, but start at 6 feet away. The new RDO194-1 tweeters will tame that harshness a lot better than the EQ and you won't have the extra noise in the signal path.Political Correctness'.........defined

Thanks for the quick reply, will have to try that tomorrow if I still want to stay in the house. Wow 3 feet from the side wall that will eat up some real estate, that's a good 9~10 feet gone. An EQ will have to do for now until I can get the tweets. Actually the EQ is not that bad, I think it's from ADC pretty high quality stuff, actual coil and resistors not the IC stuff. I took it in and out and it does not add anything if I set all controls at 0.

If you count in the width of the speakers, etc. you really need about 15 feet of wall. As for the EQ, I think once you install the new tweeters you'll find no need for it and they really have no place in a good 2 channel rig.
I think once you get these dialed in, you're going to very happy.Political Correctness'.........defined

F1nut is right... the RD0194-1 silk dome replacement tweeter will tame that harshness quite a bit. It's a big pricey to do a set of SRS's, but the improvment is a great investment... esp if you are planning to keep them for a while. I plan to hold onto mine... so the replacement tweeters i consider an investment.
good luck, and yeah ditch the EQ ASAP.
What are you powering your SRS's with? That may have an affect on the brightness as well.
I should post a picture of my SRS's with the upgraded tweeeters.. not like we all haven't seen the tweeters before mind you.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

That would be nice if you can post a pic of the tweets, I haven't seen them yet. It's cutting real close with 15 feet of wall, I haven't measure my wall yet but I guess mine is gonna be really tight. I like older gear (cheaper and better quality since there is no known real improvement in amp design for ages) so I have a pair of Denon POA-1500 in bi-amp mode, a Sony V-FET 5650 (people claimed that this V-FET thing sounded warm and tube like) use as a pre-amp and a Denon CD player with an ADC EQ. As I told F1nut before I like bass so whenever I listen to music my house kinda shake a bit . I will try to take some pics tonight of my gear with lower res pics. Another question, I bought a single LSi 9 to use as a center channel with the SRS as front when I want to set up for Home theatre, is this a good choice?

MIN888, send me a PM with your email address. I'll email you a SDA-SRS owners manual......it will pay you back in spades w/ your set up.
I also sent a grip of manuals to POLKSDA's website. So he should have them up soon..

I personally like mine on the long wall in the middle of the length. If you set up a triangle with an equal distance between you and each speaker it tends to work out well. The Nut has helped us all out at some point but don't call him Mr. He gets uppity.

Here are the pics of my setup. As you can see my room is pretty small, I got only about 13~14 feet of space between the walls, so I can get only about 2 feet out from the side wall. This helps tremendously, thanks to the nut's suggestion. Those 2 feet really open up the speakers and now I can really hear the effect of the SDA . I attached pics of my pair Denon POA-1500 which is really classy in silver with those big meters and wood veneer on the side. The pre-amp is the Sony 5650 V-FET integrated amp which I use as a pre-amp, it sounds really warm. It's because of this thing that I sold my B&K Ref 50 surround sound processor. The V-FET made the B&K sound like S..... On a side note, does anybody here still remember how the Kappa 9 from Infinity sounds like? How does it compare to the SDA-SRS. I remember vaguely that I used to drool over these 2 20yrs ago when I was still in college.

Here is another try, the darn site kept saying my pics are too big. So here is a compressed version hopes it work this time. I give up, the darn site wouldn't let me post any pics. If somebody would help me to post it then I can email him/her the pics.
