where to put my RTi6's

The problem is that my couch is right against the wall and I can't put the RTi6's further behind me. I was thinking about making my own brackets, since I am good at metal work. I have a hanging ceiling, so I was going to mount the speakers above the ceiling panels and just have the actual speaker hanging down below the panels.
Now my question is what angle should I mount them at? I was thinking about mounting them so the speakers face almost straight down and facing the tv(meaning facing downwards and pointing to the TV long ways) Is this a bad idea?

I think there is no rule of thumb on this.
However, I have seen many instances where it has been mentioned that they should be 2 - 3 feet above ear level and facing each other or slightly towards the front-center of the room. They should have a slight to no tilt downward. This should give the best surround soundstage since surround sound is not supposed to be directional.
Does that make sense?
