1. Grab a calculator. (you won't be able to do this one in your head)

2. Key in the first three digits of your phone number (NOT the area code)

3. Multiply by 80

4. Add 1

5. Multiply by 250

6. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number

7. Add the last 4 digits of your phone number again.

8. Subtract 250

9. Divide number by 2

Do you recognize the answer?

i probably shouldn't have ingested all that mescaline before stumbling upon this thread :D
now the entire universe makes sense (and doesn't)
good stuff -- can't wait to share it with the wifey :)
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

You can't enter it all at once into a scientific calculator or graphing calculator, because it will perform the multiplication and division first, and then the addition and subtraction. You have to do them in the order in which they're listed.

It's worked with six phone numbers for me so far.

    Uhh. math, people.

    In complicated terms f(f'(x))=x.
    80 times the first 3 digits (****) plus one times 250 gives you 2*(xxx0000)+250;
add the last four digits (yyyy) twice gives you 2*(xxx0000)+250+2*(yyyy).
    minus 250 gives you 2*(xxx0000)+2*(yyyy).
divide by 2 gives you xxx0000+yyyy=xxxyyyy

In uncomplicated terms, take the first three digits of your phone number; multiply by 10000; add last four digits. HOLY CRAP, it's your phone number!
