knu knanners knot knice

I just replaced my cheapo gold plated nanners on my amp end with some KnuKoncept BFA gold plate over berrylium copper nanners and my system has lost every ounce of musicality it seems like. What up with that? These suckers fit tighter than a 14......well really tight anyway. I had to really push them in and they're supposed to give more surface contact area, etc. The old nanners fit kinda loose . I didn't really expect a change in sound for better or worse. Just looking for a better fit. This really sucks though. These suckers gotta break in or something?

They look like some type of fancy fruit coring tool. It is kinda late, maybe your ears are tired.......I've decided to go locking bananas on my next cable.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

It's all about synergy. Your system liked the ones you had before better than the new ones. That's why you have to actually listen to components.
That type of thing happend to me recently. I had swapped out a pair of Musical Concepts cables for a pair of JPS Superconductors because I was trying to get a change in bass. The Superconductors were wonderful between my CJ Premier 14 preamp and Perreaux 2150B amp, but between my current Counterpoint stuff, I found myself getting bored with the music. Interestingly, everything sounded great, but it just didn't have the "draw you in" ability.
Swapped cables back and all was well. Synergy!

LOL! Guess I'll have to reread the ad. All I saw was the word 'banana'. Guess I just had audio on my mind at the time. They are made for the Island of Knu where apples only grow to the size of quarters, but have 10 times the flavor of Washington's best offering.

Interesting problem. The only thing that comes to my mind is to can those suckers and try something else.
Wait a sec....did you solder the wire to the posts or are the wires held in with screws?Political Correctness'.........defined

I still have the old ones. I'll give these a few more days and see what happens. No, these aren't soldered. They're like my old ones in that they use a set screw except they have 2 set screws vs just one. In all regards these new ones should be better. BTW, I have been very tired the last couple days . Maybe it's just a coincidence and I just don't have my good ears on.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. I've not heard of nor experienced burn in for connection devices. Maybe try soldering the wires to the banana's.Political Correctness'.........defined

Hmmm............take em off, go bare wire and see if the magic comes back. I think they will work well for holding an ear of corn if nothing else.

I would have to question if you accidentally changed anything else during the transition. I wouldn't think banana plugs would have that much of an affect one way or another, especially such a bad effect when switching in much more solid ones.
I'm not sure what else could have changed, though. Maybe another connection got loose, the wires aren't in good/screwed down good in the bananas, etc.

I think it is the metalurgy. "gold plate over berrylium copper" Perhaps the berrylium is not a good conductor or lends itself to alter the signal?Skynut

Cables and connectors can do strange things, I don't understand it, so I won't try to explain it. Let them run for a week or so, if you don't like them, go back to your original setup. I have had some similar experiences with cable/connector changes. It's beyond the scope of my brain....Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
Synergy....metalurgy....strange things that go bump in the night..... all things you might experience...as you enter....the Twilight Zone.
I am back to the original nanners and all is well. I actually tried another set I had laying around and got back the sweet sound w/out as much air as the originals but I can honestly say I heard the difference in all 3 sets. I swear I did. I have tried all kinds of connections before on other systems...bare wire, bananas, spades and never , ever heard a difference before. This is the first time I've changed anything with this current system though but still I just don't believe it and you probably won't either.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables.
