Do us all a favor and don't contribute to the awful commercialization of this crappy day...

Seriously... the whole concept is rediculous... if you're in a serious relationship you shouldn't need a day to remind you to tell the other person you love them.

Damn Hallmark... they're rolling in it this week.

Guess this thread is probably late anyway.

Agreed... I've had some pretty bad luck the last couple valentines days so this one seems to be a reminder of the **** happenings of past years.

Make an excuse to not see her today and then tomorrow hit the after sales.
You can set her up with huge ballon and flower bouquets and save a bundle.
Candy half off and cards even cheaper.
    $20.00 will look like $200.00

Where's Jstas? I'd like his thoughts on this one.

I sent a lady I've gone out with *twice* a Vermont Teddy Bear. She loves it, I was happy to do it.

    Cheers,

    Hell, I hope so!

And no, no money spent for me this year... GF and I broke up over Christmas. Too bad it was after the gift-giving was already done for that season...

This year is shaping up to be a cheap one if I can stay away from the women :)

I didn't spend any money either... the whole concept has changed over the years, now is all about spending as much as you can at Hallmark.

Here where I live the stores encourage people to give presents/gifts not only to your GF/wife but also to your friends and any other person you care about

Here is not "Valentine's Day" but "Love and Friendship Day"

    it's all crap.

One year I took the better half to a really nice dinner. I mean like $250 for two nice. On the way home, she asked me why I didn't get her a card. "You want a card?", I asked. So I gave her the charge slip for the dinner...

Yeah, I slept on the couch that night...

Maybe you guys are dating the wrong kind of women. Valentine's Day is for them, nothing else. No kidding you should be a loving spouse/significant other at all times of the year. It's one day to show that extra bit of appretiation for a loved one, not really that big of deal. Just because so many aspects of Valentine's Day are commercialized doesn't mean you need to be a commercial sucker....

    ....and if that doesn't work:

Yep, it is what it looks like. :p

I find myself agreeing with Demi far too much lately... frightening :)

Seriously, if you don't like the "commercialism", don't participate. You can't fault an industry for trying to profit when guys can't figure out how to show their women they care without just throwing money at the problem. Some of the best Valentine's Day stories I've heard have involved nothing but thought and time.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I'm lucky in that my wife dislikes "dead" flowers and thinks jewelry is a waste of money. What did she get? A really nice dinner and some fun, warm socks and a gourmet chocolate bar and she was more than happy. ;):D
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

For the past while my wife has been saying how I lost the romantic side. I played it up big time by saying romance was for suckers and saying I hadn't and will not do anything for her.
She opened her lunch box and there was a letter. The letter said that I was picking her up after work taking her to dinner at this great lil Italian rest. Withinn the letter was 2 tickets for her to go see Hawksley Workman. She can bring a friend cause he's not my cup of tea.
She was so happy she had tears in her eyes.
All is great, the only thing I was thinking is will she expect this every time?
Out of the 9 yrs together this was one Vday out of 2 that we have done something. As mentioned above, this is a day for the lady. I did not buy flowers or chocolate. Dinner was the same price as it usually is for a 4 course meal.

Got the lady one red rose and one hersey's kiss, and some chocolate covered cherries, and asked her whatever she wanted to do was fine with me, sent the young lad out to grandma's, and watched her kind of movie, Cinderella Man. Not to much money but Oh the rewards. All it takes is some time and effort not alot of money, I think I spent 15.00, less them some IC's, or a new release DVD.

We've been married 27 years. It just keeps getting better if you keep doing the little things to make each other happy. Valentine's Day is a reminder to something extra. Last night it was grilling fillets and listening to her new Frank Sinatra CD after dinner.
