Backed into my dog this morning

I was backing out of the driveway this morning and heard some yelping like you wouldn't believe. I quickly stop the car and look under the back and there she is, trapped under the muffler crying like mad. I quickly jump back in and pull it forward and she limps outs. We took her to the vet and luckly everything is ok. It's just a sprain in the leg, and she (I) scratched up her foot. :o Good thing she is huge, otherwise I would have just run her over (she stands about 30" and weighs about 130lbs. I'll post a picture later if anyone is interested). If it wasn't cold out, should would have had quite the burn from the muffler.

Hopefully whe will learn her lesson about chassing cars in and out of the driveway (she was actually afraid to walk by my car when we were trying to get her in the truck to go to the vet). Thank god I always go slow through the driveway (maybe my wife will start listening to me about how fast she drives in the driveway).

    Glad pooch is OK...

Ran over our new kitten once about 25 years ago. No fun at all...

    I hope she recovers fully.
It would really suck to run over your own dog.
I know I have felt bad every time I have hit someone else dog and can only imagine it would really suck to hurt your own dog.

    That's great that she's alright.

I used to take my Dane for rides in my little Corolla and her head was always hanging out the rear window. Quite the sight! Anyway, I went to put up the front passenger side window and hit the wrong button...the one for the back window. I heard a little yelp and realized I had her neck pinched between the window and the door frame. She ended up being alright but I felt like horses sh*# for a long while.

And yeah, a pic would be cool.

I was really freaking before I saw her. I was worried that I had actually ran over her with the tire. Luckily she's was big enough to start the yelping when she started going under the rear end (and whe was all they way under). When I saw her walk (limp), I felt ok. I'm just glad there was no real damage. (the dr. has her on downers now).

I never hit a pet, but I once hit a squirl and felt like crap (I tried my best to miss him. I even heard him yelp). I even felt bad when I hit a squirl with a a golf ball. A SOLID five iron shot that I skulled. The ball didn't come more than a foot off the ground and it was moving. I smacked a squirl in the fairway about 20 yards away (you can hear the THUD clearly). He let out a yelp and scurried up a tree (I think he was ok. It was clinging on the side of tree, but not moving much [I got right next to him] He must have been "WHAT THE F@#K WAS THAT!).

And Skynut, have you actually hit more than 1 dog?

I have hit (totally by accident) several cats, countless birds, many squirrels, and at least 6 dogs 2 of which were in front of their respective families.
I always feel bad. (not so much with the squirrels or birds)
One time I hit this dog in front of the house it lived at and the owners were in the yard. I stopped and was appologizing to them when one kid tells me he ran it over once before.
Then the mom yells from the front door "is it dead" and the kid replies "it's dead"
So mom yells back "well you better bury it before it gets hard" and the kid say back "I ain't gonna touch it"
She replies "you were just playin with it two minuites ago"
They were obviously not as bothered as I was. Except the little one who wouldn't quit crying.

Wow, that's a lot of creature hurting.

That must be the worst thing when you hit a pet and the family sees it. I would concider myself lucky that the family took it so well. Some people would go balistic.

I saw my dog get hit my a motorcycle when I was a kid. She wasn't killed, but I was balling like a baby.

I do have to admit that the squirl with the golf ball was pretty funny. I felt real bad at the initial impact, but aftwards we laughed a bit. It was a one in a million shot.

My friend hit a duck with a golf ball. When we got to that point of the course there were lots of ducks and one of them sat on his ball. It took us several minuites to figure out what happened to it.

    Wow...glad she is ok.

I had a close call like that w/my dog, totally my fault though. Happened a few years ago, I take her with me when I go to Motocross tracks out her in SoCal. I tie her up to the bumper when I go ride. Well, I went to move the truck (just need to be moved a few feet for some reason or another) and forgot she was there. Started backing up and all I heard was a bunch of people screaming at me. Stopped the truck just in time. A few more inches and...

After that, I couldn't ride, just packed up everything and left. I felt absolutley horrible for the next few days.

    that's funny.

My brother-in-law was golfing and saw a duck with a bunch of little ones swimming in a line. A second later a Hawk comes swooping down and grabs a little one up. I feel sorry for the duckling, but that must have been a cool sight!

Thank goodness shes ok! I hit a dog once in front of the family. They lived off of a busy road and I guess they let the dog run right out into the street. Nothing I could do..it just dashed right out in front of my car. I was more upset than the were though.

    Glad your dog is OK.

I've only hit one dog before. Years ago so the statue of limitations has run out. German Shepard vs 1969 Ford Galaxie xl 429 2 door @ about 80+ mph. I won.

    LOL...

I whacked a 2-iron into a clump of leaves in a tree limb years ago. Bunch of leaves fell to the ground with a "thump". The sound puzzled me until I got to it a found a squirrel in the middle of the leaves that had been stunned to the point of becoming a ex-squirrel.

Really upset me.... most solid 2-iron I ever hit.
    More later,
