Hello everyone,

I have been visiting here for a while and have learned a great deal. My regret is that I purhased my gear a while back and now wish I researched a bit more. Anyway, I am currently using Monitor 30's for fronts, CS1 center, R15 surrounds and a Velodyne 1200 sub. Reciever is a Sony 597. I am considering upgrading to Monitor 40's for fronts and moving the Monitor 30's to the surround position. Question is, would I be better off upgrading the reciever first? Also, the Monitor 30's are great for HT but musically they are a bit bright, in my opinion. I think my cheap reciever may be contributing and will have the same effect on the 40's. What do you think?

    your receiver is the bottleneck.
try Harman/Kardon, Marantz, Denon. In that order.

Have upgraded (I shouldn’t be calling this an upgrade, totally different World) from Sony STR DE897 (no preouts) to Denon AVR 3806. The 3806 receiver is powering my Rti speakers.

Never heard the Monitor speaker series. I find my Rti’s are bright and very forward speakers musically speaking.

Mind you this is only my opinion. :)

if RTi's sound too bright, I've heard that Haarmon Kaardon is the way to go. lays things back a bit. some like that brighter sound, some dont.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I will look to upgrade the reciever first. (Help! I think the upgrade bug has bitten me. Somebody hide my wallet)
