Center Channel Distortion?

At first I noticed it when watching TV. I'm using an old VCR for a tuner at the moment, so I just figured it was a source problem. But then yesterday I was watching a DVD and noticed it - mostly during loud higher-pitched speaking, I heard a kind of frayed noise from my center.
Could this be anything other than a blown tweeter? I have some old R30s, I think I might hook one up in place of the CSi30 and see if I can reproduce the sound, make sure it's not the center channel stage of my receiver. The thing is, I can't imagine how I could blow a center channel. It's not like I play it that loud, and the H/K is reasonably powerful, especially for my small room. I did buy the speaker used, maybe it always had a problem and I'm just noticing it?

I've realized that quite a large number of DVDs have distortion coming through the center channel. This usually occurs in a scene where someone is yelling or otherwise talking loudly. I've heard it on every center channel i've owned. I first noticed it on my old MTX center channel, so i went to the store and bought an Infinity Beta C250. It also had that problem. Also happens on my Polk CS2. Thinking it was something in my system, i went to a hifi store here where they have a nice B&W setup and noticed it there as well. So in many (not all cases), it could be a result of a crappy recording.
I never notice that type of distortion on a well-mastered DVD.KEF Q150 | Rythmik F12 | Yamaha Aventage RX-A780 -
Try to turn off the bass and treble see if that helps.

Change your power cords, speaker cables and interconnects one at a time and see if the problems remains. Start with the power cord to the receiver. Cfrizz had the same issue a couple of weeks ago and an after market power cord fixed the problem. For a very inexpensive option, try the PS Audio Power Punch that is currently being discussed in the 2 Channel Audio section on this forum.HT/2-channel Rig: Sony 50 LCD TV; Toshiba HD-A2 DVD player; Emotiva LMC-1 pre/pro; Rogue Audio M-120 monoblocks (modded); Placette RVC; Emotiva LPA-1 amp; Bada HD-22 tube CDP (modded); VMPS Tower II SE (fronts); DIY Clearwave Dynamic 4CC (center); Wharfedale Opus Tri-Surrounds (rear); and VMPS 215 sub

I think that it is the source a lot of times also. I have noticed it with specific DVDs on a few different set ups.Sharp Elite 70

I use to have all kinds of distortion from my CSi3 and then LSiC. If you're like me and the center is sitting atop your TV, try putting some blu-tac or similar under the center channel to help isolate it.
