Rti4 or Rti6

I've been looking into getting a nice set of Polk's with my tax return, but I'm not exactly sure what would be the best bang for the buck. Honestly, anything would be an upgrade from the cheap Sony speakers I'm running at the moment(SSMB350H).

I have been looking at the Rti6's, the Rti4's and the Monitor40's for the past few weeks, but can't really make a decision. Whatever I end up with needs to have a dual purpose. When at school, they need to function as computer speakers; running music, movies and games. At home they will be used almost exclusively in a theater setup.

I guess I'm implying I would probably be satisfied with all of them, Im just not knowledgable enough to really make a concrete decision. Thanks.

    my vote is the RTi6 if your budget can swing it. get the RTi4 only if smaller size will benefit you ALOT.

    the 4's have my vote. I a/b'd them both and while the 6 can play slightly louder and has slightly better bass response in the 50-60hz range, they also have a more forward, in your face sound that I wasn't crazy over.

    I also like the midrange reproduction of the smaller 5 1/4" cone. In this case less was definitely more. Highs are basically the same.

    The powerport for both speakers are tuned at 54hz. If you're using a sub at the 80hz or even 60hz spot (as I do), then in my opinion the 6's bass advantage is irrelevant, and all your left with is a bigger, boxier speaker.

    Do a comparison yourself. You may hear things differently.

    Go listen to them both, then make a decision. I own the RTi6's as rear speakers in my HT and really like like them.

    Go with the 4's. With moving back and forth smaller is better. I used to lug 10B's back and forth, took up a third of my car space.

    I agree with aaharvel. I did a side by side where I had the sales guy use the 80Hz sub x-over. I like the sound of the 5.25" mid better. It seemed a little more tight and less boomy.

    Again, your ears may hear it differently. However, I am satisfied with my RTi4 purchase.

    I honestly never thought about the physical size and having to lug them from home to school twice a year.

    I'm really not all that knowledgable on the subject, so my opinion isn't really all that educated. What I wanted originally was the monitor40s. I figured the dual woofers would equate to more low end, which I found isn't necesarily true. So I started looking at the rti line a few weeks ago. What I'm thinking now is getting the rti4's. This will end up saving me over 100 bucks, and if they don't generate the amount of bass I want I can always save a little bit and get a psw10 for that extra low end.

    But then again that leads me to having to lug around a 10" woofer, kind of defeating the purpose of going with the smaller speakers. Im going to have to get to a circuit city sometime in the near future...
