The JBL sub has a 400 watt amp in it. I can not hear any hum coming out of the woofer and it seems to be kicking in when needed. I acquired the sub because the price was excellent. I had an older Polk sub in the $300 price range that I replaced with this sub. In time, I will likely move the sub for use with my 2 channel system around my bar and pooltable. But for now I am pretty happy with the sub.
I think the best recommendations that make sense so far is upgrade the DVD player first then the pre-amp.
I am curious on how much of a difference or improvment the pre-amp wll really make. If its sizable I would consider acquiring the matching Aragon pre-amp. If any one has done this and can comment on the improvement please let me know on a scale of 1-10.TV = WS65611

Does Aragon make a processing pre? If so then I'd say 10. Aragon is excellent stuff sonically. Even if they don't offer a processing pre I'd still say a 10. It's pretty much a no brainer.

Yep....Aragon Stage 1 MSRP $3,175.
I would go with the Aragon before the Lexicon MC-8 at $7,000.
I would be interested how the Stage 1 compares with the Outlaw. The $2,000 difference buys a lot of other upgrades."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Ok, after reading all of this thread...I'd agree the upgrades that are in order are the sub, preamp, and source. Then you can start worrying about speaker cables, interconnects, powercords, etc. As far as what to pursue first, I'm not sure. The Onkyo AVR certainly isn't doing a great job for the preamp, but then it also sounds like you need a new source. But I would say an SVS sub would probably make the most noticeable difference.
As for preamps...get the Aragon! That'd just be killer to have a matching Aragon pre to go with your amp!George Grand wrote: »

IMO, right now is totally the worst time to get a pre amp. Wait a year or so and get one that supports Dolby Digital truehd and DTS HD.Speakers: LSi9 x 2, LSic, LSiFX x 2, Velodyne HGS-15
Amps & Power: Rockford Fosgate T8004 x 3, Cascade Audio APS-55 power supplies x 5, and 1 farad capacitor.
Electronics: Denon 3806, Toshiba HD-A1, & Sony KDL46XBR2
Accessories: Anti-IC interconnects, 8 Mondo Traps from Realtraps, and Salamander furniture. -
