How quiet is "quiet"? Like do you have to put your ear next to the tweeter to hear the noise or do you hear a noise from your chair?
Very efficient speakers will tend to generate more noise if your amp is "noisy."
Another problem is the cable / satellite system. Try unplugging your cable / satellite receivers from the outlets to see if that helps. -
Circuit design, massaging negative feedback, design of and/or isolation of the power supply, discrete output stage, etc etc...
Is your Cary black?Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
Let me explain a little..
My new Cary makes no sound what so ever , no matter how high I turnthe knob up while no music is playing..
same electrical plugs, same I/C`s, same speaks, wires etc.
My Parasound 3500..turn it up with no music playing and I get a faint hiss that will get louder as the volume is turned up..
not too bad but it`s not dead quiet like the Cary..
I want to make like the Cary...
no sound when the music is not playing, and a pitch black background while it is....
what can I do to achieve this..?Cary SLP-98L F1 DC Pre Amp (Jag Blue)

This is odd.
I use a parasound 2200II. It also has that 'faint hiss' but it doesn't get hissier as you raise the volume. I have to get my ears right next to the tweeter in order to here the hiss.Gear: Rotel RC 1082, Rotel RSP 1068 pre/pro, Rotel RMB1077 amp, Cayin CDT 15a CD player, S301 bluray.

It's not a bummer, it's hifi broham.

Just a follow up. Tested the Parasound 1200II and yes this one has similar hiss issues with your 3500. You can even hear the volume nob through the speakers.
Btw; according to this:
http://www.stereophile.com/solidpoweramps/100parasound/
There is a way to fix the hiss but it may require modding.Gear: Rotel RC 1082, Rotel RSP 1068 pre/pro, Rotel RMB1077 amp, Cayin CDT 15a CD player, S301 bluray.

Unless you sit on top of your speakers whether or not you playing music it shouldn't be a problem, cause you have to be in order to hear the hiss!
Look at it this way, if you hear the hiss, you know the amp is working!

I love my 3500..
I`m going on a bike ride with thw wife to the coast today...
If she keeps it up , I may just leave her there too...!!!
The Cary has been on since I got home last night, and the Parasound has been on since I got up this morning..
When I get back this evening they both should be just shy of the magic 100 hrs marker...
I`m just getting started...
and neither one is going anywhere, along with the cary pre...Cary SLP-98L F1 DC Pre Amp (Jag Blue)

Power supply problem most likely. Or, not really a problem, more of not a perfect design. If the noise changes with volume, its generally a noise in the signal path before the amp.Brian Knauss

why dont you unplug all the input leads to see if the noise is internal or its going through a input cable.
