External processor wired in where???

Hi there, not the first time posting but a Real question for me.

Here is the setup: cheap (for now) Pioneer DV-C503 being used for a CD player, going through a SP-99D external processor, into a VSX-97 used for a preamp, into a M-91 and then into a pair of SDA 2.1s.

My issue at this point is having to juggle a pair of volume controls. I have the SP-99D in there because I like the audio shaping qualities of a digital processing unit, and I can utilize my (marginal) sub a little better than if I ran it from the sub-out terminal on the back of the VSX-97...that unit does not provide decent sub-bass output to the sub for some reason.

At any rate, when adjusting the volume, I have to adjust one volume control (one on the 99D and the other on the 97)and then the other to achieve appropriate sound levels. I've read in doing some research on the web that it's possible to connect things up that the SP-99D would serve as the sole volume control. Would this mean totally bypassing the VSX-97 and using the 99D as the preamp? There are only 2 sets of inputs on the 99D so it would limit the possibilities.

Thanks for your response...

    OK...well, I guess I expected a few more responses than...zero.

I think I will try the processor on the tape2 monitor loop? About the only way I know of to get the sub to play with the mains is to run the pre-out, originally to the M-91 amplifier, to the sub, then the output from the sub to the M-91?

Thanks for the responses folks, keep 'em comin'. :D

Are you saying the VSX doesn't provide decent bass output?

IMO, you've got too many links in the chain. Take out the VSX and call it a day. You'll go batty trying to tune everything if you don't.

Yeah, you're probably right. However I like to listen to the radio and I have no external tuner...so I can't do that at the moment.

Yep, the VSX-97 has very flaccid sub-bass output from the dedicated RCA...even when I crank the adjustment meant specifically for it.
