Directv v. Dishnetwork for HD and DVR?

My contract is up with Directv and so I am looking at Dishnetwork, as well. Directv is rolling out new MPEG4 here in Pittsburgh soon, but I didn't want to wait. I ended up getting HD box free and separate DVR free after rebate and 3 months free Showtime and HD. However, now I hear DishNetwork may have better equipment and less than two year committment. Any clues on which is better right now?

directivo much better than dish and you own your equipment after a year. We switch to Dish and their DVR and cannot wait till the contract is up to move back to Directv. I heard directv is making their own dvr, haven't heard much about it though.Matthew

Dish just added 7 new HD channels on the 1st. I think their total is 24 channels now. I don't think that counts HBO or Showtime HD either. They also have an agreement to start carrying Food Network and Home & Garden HD around April. The new channels require their new mpeg4-capable receivers. If you go to dishnetwork.com you can punch in how many rooms you have, how high def tv's, and dvr's you want, and it will give you pricing there.

DTV's DVR is not better than Dishnetwork according to quite a few D* subscribers that I know. A few of the comments that they've thrown out after seeing mine in action were "DAMN Your Guide is Fast!!!" "I wish mine had as much capacity," "Even your SD looks better than mine!!!" These comments were but a few when I had a HT Meet & Greet at my place.
Try to watch both and make up your own mind.
