removing protective screen?

having heard some of you guys talk about this, and considering that i've got two bay windows behind my sofa, i decided to remove my protective glare screen.
the guy i called at philips factory service told me that it wasn't recommended, but gave me instructions on how to do it anyways.
question is, is the tv okay without it? i've got two cats, but don't think they would really mess anything up (they prefer the sofa). i was thinking about maybe even just draping a sheet over it when not in use, does that sound like a good idea?
...i'll hear all opinions, thanks guys.

I bought a piece of plexy-glass from Home Depot and put a small wood frame aound the perimeter. It slides on and off within seconds, yet protects the actual screen. Works great.
