More power = More $$$ ???
I have a question about cost. What have you guys experienced with respect to electricity bills compared to before and after you got a HT system? The setup in my signature below is what I am most likely going with. Will I see a significant increase in my bills if say, for example, I watched one two hour movie a day???

I don't think you are going to see a big difference, you may not see a difference at all, certainly nothing to worry about....
Now a 220V Hot Tub, that is something that puts a hole in the wallet.....

I would have thought that with all of these powerful amps supplying high amounts of watts would amount to more expense. That is wierd that you guys havn't seen much of a change??? Sounds good to me thoughHarman Kardon AVR 7300

If you go with separates, running pro-audio amps x 7 and you run them at high levels, it can easily be a couple hundred watts of electric use for each amp. That doesn't translate all that much on the bill, but it's definitely there. Compared to the cost of the amps and components though, it's negligible.Harman Kardon AVR-435 Receiver

Perfect statement...
Like a Ferrari or Lambo owner posting on a forum asking how much his gas is going to cost....

Guiseppe in the US we are billed by the Kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Kilowatt is a unit of measure of the rate at which electrical energy is used. Ten 100 watt light bulbs turned on at the same time will use electrical energy at a rate of 1000 watts or 1 kW (Kilowatt).
Kilowatt-hour is a unit of measure of electricity used. One kilowatt hour lights a 100 watt bulb for 10 hours or operates a 1000 watt appliance-such as a hair dryer, iron or toaster for one hour.
In my area the rate per kWh (Kilowatt hour) is anywhere between $0.03734-$0.08275.
So essentially I can burn one hundred watt bulb for 10 hours and it would cost me between a nickle and a dime. If you can roughly figure the useage of the components and know the going rate you can see it amounts to very little.
H9"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Differentiation by numbers is for those who do not".--Nelson Pass Pass Labs XA25 | EE Avant Pre | EE Mini Max Supreme DAC | MIT Shotgun S1 | Pangea AC14SE MKII | Legend L600 | BlueSound Node 3 - Tubes add soul! -

Scott,
My (4 woman, 1 man ) Hot Tub runs 24/7, 7 days a week. Compared to that bad boy, I do not even think my HT system even shows up on my bill.

Exactly - I like the 4 woman, 1 man part  My tub costs us about 150 or so a month, and to think that when I bought it, the salesman told me it would be about 30.00 or so....(I guess a sucker is born every minute )

Thanks for the replys guys. Well to be specific, the only reason I wanted to check about the electric use was because I am setting up my system in my parents basement and don't want to add to their bills, lol. If it was going to be significant then I would pay for the extra.Harman Kardon AVR 7300
