okay, so it looks like i'll only be able to squeeze like .8 cubic feet per sub (plan to run dual subs) out of a custom box for my truck. i have two jlaudio 12's from my wrecked camaro and want to utilize them if possible vs buying new 10's. question i have for you all is:

given the smaller than recommended enclosure volume, would it be more prudent to stuff my 12's in the smaller boxes or just run two 10's with closer to recommended enclosure space?

my 12's were in an already too small an enclosure in my camaro. like 1 cubic foot per sub when the recommended sealed volume is like 1.5 cubic feet. they sounded awesome and hit deep/low. am i gonna lose the lowest of octaves going this route, the .8 route? 12's still have more cone area than 10's. what say you all???

by the way, i've got ample power to make up for the lesser internal volume.

well, you'll be running at nearly half the reccommended volume, which will severly choke the subs - no amount of power can overcome a near-vacuum inside that box... will they sound bad? no... will 10s sound better? maybe, maybe not, i don't think there's any way to tell without trying...

yeah, just bit the bullet and got a pre-fab box for two twelves. even if they sound like 10's, i already own the woofers and wasn't looking forward to purchasing a new set of woofs. i would have made my own, but i'm far too anal to do that again. i'm a perfectionist and drive myself ****! if i didn't like it, i'd scrap it and start all over again. i wanted to keep it simple. prefab and possibly re-carpet it to match truck interior. keep it simple.

as long as there's enough mounting depth, that should be just fine...

supposedly box allows for a bit over 6". my jl's are a little under. and what? add some polyfill to trick sub into thinking box is larger?

yeah, play with the amount of polyfill till you get it where you want it... if you have an adjustable 'subsonic' xover somewhere, playing with that can help, too...

WELP, got it installed. can't believe how good it still sounds with so little airspace! i'm hittin' hard around 30 hz with test tones and start to taper off below that. not too shabby. can't believe those jlaudio can still move so much air.

cheap **** box and should have fabricated my own, but it works and sounds pretty good. doesn't sound like awesome 12's. sounds like really well done 10's. but that's all i expected from this box.
