Is the Denon AVR-1706 any good or should I look for something better? I don't want to spend more than $400 right now. Thanks for any input

Try Denon AVR-1906. Not expensive and very superior to 1706 (more power too).
Also consider models of Yamaha and Harman Kardon. For example, in this price range, The Yamaha RX-V657/757 is a great chiose

Thanks
After reading many things about Denon I didn't like to see, I think I'm gonna stick with the HK route. Looking into a refurb. from Harman. I need to get something good and stick with it. I have 4 receivers, one I use currently, and roughly 19 speakers and only use half of them.HK AVR 335

With all that additional equipment, it looks like it's time to sell and buy some decent gear.Michael
