I'm new to these forums and am slowly trying to build myself a respectable system so I've been lurking around here and ecoustics and audioreview and all sorts of places just learning about things like pre/pro. SS, tubes etc.. basically geeking out, right!?

I've visited my local HIFI shop to talk with the guys and get a better understanding of gear and get a chance to hear some different equipment and do some A/B tests just for fun because as always money is an object. And it's hard to compare equipment when you don't own an audio shop.

Just wondering if there is anyone in the Boston suburbs on here who has some cool gear they want to show off, have a beer talk about components blow my face off with some sweet music. Just looking for like minded individuals.

Unfortunately I just don't know any audiophiles. (Stable job, Wife two kids loves good music-not an ax murderer ; ))

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm from Somerville now, and grew up in Lexington

My audio budget has been quite low for many years, and I really like the vintage-gear sound, so what I have right now in my fairly small (10'x13') living room is a pair of Polk RTA-12's (1979) being driven by a Sansui Eight (1974) receiver. If real estate ever gets affordable (fat chance..), I want someplace where SDA-SRS 1.2's wont loom over my houseguests... My concentration is more toward two-channel music than home theater, but I also have an HT setup that includes a CS-400 speaker.

As far as audio shops go, the guys at Audio Lab in the Garage building in Harvard Square are good to talk to, as are the Spearit Sound people in the store on Comm Ave near BU. Audioproz (www.audioproz.com) on Mt. Auburn street in Watertown are fun and a little weird, dealing only in used gear.

Yup... deep suburbs. Klipsches and Polks, and some popular, vintage of the NE speakers...

Joelll, I think I still owe you somethin'... :-)

I live in Everett, but don't really have any gear of note, unfortunately.

As for audio stores, I believe there is a place called Q Audio in Cambridge as well as the ones mentioned above. Never been there though.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Thanks for the replies, Unfortunately going into the city isn't that great of an option for me. I'm outside of 495 in Westford and finding any time to go into the city with two kids is near impossible. The place I dropped into was New England Home Theater in Littleton, MA. They have a focus on building (as in construction) home theaters for customers and installing the equipment. Of course their showroom has all sorts of gear too and TVs etc to check out.

I'm in no way affiliated with these guys but they were cool and knowledgeable, you can check them out online at:

    Thanks,
    Rich

    1) There are some others of us out in the 'burbs!

    2) If you didn't know it (and if you might care), the Northeast's biggest antique radio (including antique hi-fi) fleamarket is Sunday, Feb. 19, at the Westford Regency!
