Does anybody here have any experience with outlaw 990 preamp? Have they compared it to others and what did they compare to? Does it sound good in 2 channel stereo? Has anyone tried it with adcom amps (5503 or the like)?
It is a lot less expensive than most, just wondering how well it compares to the more expensive ones? Good value?
Any thoughts are appreciated! Thank you!

I bought one of the first 990s and have matched it with an adcom 7607 plus polk lsi9s, lsi center, and lsifx. The sound is open, maybe a bit warm (in comparison to the outlaw 7100 I had before) but there is plenty of power clarity effortlessness and detail, The 990 provides all you need and then some in terms of connections and choices for processing. It is an incredibly flexible and musical piece of equipment in comparison to the outlaw 950 and the denon 3801 receiver I had before. The denon was not a good match with the polks since they were not rated for 4ohms. I have also used in the far past the legendary polks 10As with the equally legendaryl adcom gfa 555 circa 1984.

I have read in a few different posts on Outlawaudio.com and avs, that the 990 and the 950 sound pretty much identicle in 2 channel. The 990 has xlr inputs that can clean up the sound a bit, but only if you have a noisy signal in the first place. I have not compared the 2 myself. One thread compared the 950, 990 and an Anthem Pre/pro. The reviewer actually preferred the 950 over the 990 for 2 channel, but preferred the Anthem over both Outlaws. I use the 950 with Krell, Outlaw and the Adcom 535. Sounds good to me.

Do you know which anthem pre/pro. Anthem avm 20, 30, or statement D1. I am seriously considering purchasing the 20 (not sure what the difference is between the 20 and 30). The statement is a little out of my reach however.Modwright SWL 9.0 SE (6Sons Audio Thunderbird PC with Oyaide 004 terminations)

I think it was the 20 model, I think it was about $1700 more than the Outlaw if that helps. I think that if 2 channel is your focus, you can do a lot better for less $ wioth a 2 channel preamp. Even a tube pre. I use 2 preamps in my system, the Outlaw 950 for 5.1, and the Krell Kav250p for 2 channel. It gives the best of both worlds for me and is still cheaper than a higher end prepro. Good luck.
