Yes my Covey Run has a fake one. I love it, no more worries about ending up with cork in my wine!Willow wrote:Speaking of corks, there are more and more of the fake ones along with...dare I say....twist caps....even on expensive wines.... :eek:Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Mad Dog 20/20 is always on the shelf
Polk Paul is a big wine junkie....he actually punched a waiter at dinner for pouring another bottle into his half-filled glass(BIG Wine No No)....that's just what I've heard.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

Twist-offs and fake corks are superior in many ways to corked bottles. The two biggest:
They don't rot/need to be wet
No cork crap floating in the wine.
Purists still need the cork though... Weirdo's... Hey, hands off that tube... I gotta go...There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin -

dont claim to be a wine specialst but i know what i like. lots of good suggestions already. excluding stawberry hill for certain. i think the key is order what you like not what you think is good. the best wines are sometime not the most appealing to the palate if you dont drink a lot of wine. order what you like regardless of reputation. the other thing is... as a person in the business... often the low-mid priced wines are the best value in terms of taste. i hope that helps.

I second the Reisling recommendations. It's seems to go well with a wide variety of foods, including many deserts. I especially like the Blue Moon out of Oregon, but I've never seen it in a restaurant.
Here's a cheap but very good cab I found at Trader Joe's if you have one: La Boca out of Argentina. $3/bottle. I'm not into reds that much (yet) but my friends who are are quite pleased with this stuff and I like it too.
A couple of South African wines I've liked are the Backsberg cab and the Goat-Roti red tablewine.
The main thing, I think, is to have a good and enjoy your wife's company and the meal. I'm of the opinion mentioned earlier drink what you like. Don't plan your meal around a bottle of wine if you aren't comfy. Personally, I think just the opposite. The wine should compliment the meal, but especially your taste!

Beringer's is a safe bet in any color (and inexspensive).
If you're having steak, may I recommend Kendall Jackson's Cabernet Sauvenigon if you have the cash ($25 a bottle restaurant price).Review Site_ (((AudioPursuit)))
